tailwater Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Hello everyone... would like some help here as i am thinking of purchasing a new reel for my 9 weight sage fly rod. on the other hand i am also interested in learning to spey fish mainly for the west coast. now I am looking at the Sage TCX 7-8 spey. looking at the specs of the new tibor signature 7-8 or 9-10 do you think it will work well with both rods. of course i would have an extra spool one with my fly line and one with spey. If anyone could help me out here that would be great... Thank you Quote
monger Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 I'm new to the game, but I have a 10-12wt reel on my 8wt spey rod. You need extra room for big shooting heads Quote
BBBrownie Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 I think the Tibor 9-10 would do fine as a crossover between the two rods you've mentioned. Ideally, you would want to try the reel on the rod to check the balance, but I am sure this set up would fish just fine. Quote
tailwater Posted March 25, 2011 Author Posted March 25, 2011 i think the signature will do fine... hope anyways.. it is an oz lighter than their spey 8-10 reel and 3oz lighter than their 11-15 spey reel. the diameter almost look the same. hmmmmm Quote
headscan Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 If you're talking about the 7126 TCX I have a Danielsson L5W 8twelve on mine and it balances nicely at about 8oz. Quote
jdangler Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 I have have an Orvis Mach V on my TCX7126 & with Skagit Flight 550, running line & backing it is 10 1/2 oz. It seems to balance nicely where my top hand grips the rod. Quote
tailwater Posted March 26, 2011 Author Posted March 26, 2011 the tibor signature 9-10 is 9.5 oz and the 7-8 is 8.5oz Quote
