maxwell Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 the poll is up for lastmonths contest "mayfly duns"! hopefully we can get more people submitting in this months theme! stonefly nymphs!! not just the big golden stones any stonefly nymph!!! the winner will be voted in by all forum members! judges by cleanness of tye, creativity in the variation and fish catching ability(hopefully)!!!!! the winner will recieve a free one year subscription too FLYFUSION MAGAZINE and at the end of the tying season (april) we will vote on the top winners from each month for a bigger prize once the winter is done and the season begins! what's required? picture of fly name of the fly recipe for the fly please post official entries on this page only! this month we will start it off easy the theme is "stonefly nymphs"! yall will have too the end of the month too submit your entries!

danhunt Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 246 X-Stone Hook: Tiemco 5263 #4 Thread: Black 6/0 Beads: 7/64 & 3/16 Antennae & Tails: Black Goose Biots Under body: 0.20 lead substitute covered with floss, thread, phentex, what ever you've got to get a nice tapered shape Over Body: black D rib, black scud back, black holographic flashibou or tinsel ribbed with fine mono (I had some 3lb maxima close at hand so that is what I used) Thorax: Black seal Legs: Black sili legs Wing case: Black thin skin Misc: Coat the abdomen with really thinned out flexcement & put a dollop of U/V knot sense on the wing case. I started experimenting over the Christmas holidays and this is what I came up with. I apologise for the quality of the pics, but I don't have a camera with a macro.

tbone Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 The Copper Crawler An easy to tie stonefly pattern using copper wire as the primary material. Hook: Size 6 2X curved nymph hook Thread: Lt. Brown Tail: 10gr copper wire Antennae: 10gr copper wire Bead: 3/16 copper Underbody: Rusty brown ice dub Ribbing: 10gr copper wire Thorax: Rusty brown ice dub Wing Case: Pearlescent film marked with black pen or natural thinskin Legs: Twisted 10gr copper wire Tying Instructions 1) Tie in copper wire for tail 2) Tie in long piece of copper wire for rib 3) Dub a tapered body with ice dub 4) Cover the dubbing with the copper wire for the rib, each wrap touching the next. 5) Tie in wing case 6) Twist copper wire to make 3 sets of legs (I use the vice). Tie in each one with figure 8 wraps on top of the hook shank evenly spaced. 7) Dub around legs. 8) Pull wing case over thorax and tie down behind bead. 9) Whip finish and cement. 10) Add markings to wing case with black sharpie if using film instead of thinskin. 11) Bend legs into position. Note: You can use a drop of super glue on the joints of each leg to reinforce the shape if desired.
