    Pike Fishing

I use the Titanium 7 strand, they are only about $6 and last a long time, also quite kink resistant compared to other leaders
  2. Would be nice to see a list of fines, to go along with the list of enfractions.Maybe if OHV users had to take a course, before they could operate their machines, it would help. This info could be pounded info them, that we need to protect , the environment as much as possible. The vast majority of OHV people are responsible use rears, but the group of bad apples is going to spoil things for all of them. The govt. really needs to step up not only enforcement, but education,on these issues.
  3. Call or e-mail them, they are very good to deal with. Explain the situation, and your expectations.
  4. Just wondering if anyone, has any experience with this new rod from Hardy. (Wraith) I had a chance to cast one at the Calgary show, but only for a few minutes. It seemed effortless to cast, and seemed put the line out like a laser beam.very light rod, a bit stiff for in close work, but I think it would be a great rod for the lake or bigger rivers. My local shop has one but it's been way to windy to try it out for more than just a couple minutes. If anyone has any first hand experience with the Wraith, would be nice to here. There are a few reviews, but would be nice to here from our local area fishers.
  5. Very nice. Thank you
  6. awesome, thank you very much.
  7. Need some advice on attaching the preformed foam bodies to the hook.If I try to tie them on, they deform. I have tried to attach the hook, and legs with crazy glue, then after it dries, put a bit of epoxy overtop of the hook and legs. What do you guys do? Thanx in advance.
  8. I thought it was a very good show, and well organized. There was some empty space though.what would be the opinion, of having a doz. or so tables dedicated to a trading section, for people trying to move, used, rods, reels and gear.might peak a bit of interest, as well as take up the empty space.
  9. First time to the show for me.I went yesterday, before it got crowded and enjoyed looking at all the displays. I got to cast a Sage method 590, as well as the new Hardy Wraith. It was very nice to be able to cast the two rods that I am most interested in, side by side. All in all I was quite happy with the show, and hope to attend again next year.
  10. Not sure if many others have used this discount fly company, or not. I stumbled upon them last week, they have a very nice selection of Flys, around $.60 ea. As well as a lot of other fly fishing items for sale. I made an order, and within an hour was notified, that my Flys had been shipped, with a tracking #. The flys arrived yesterday, and appear to be reasonable quality, for the price. They also have some well written articles, on fly fishing in general. Just thought I would pass this on, as it may interest, some forum members. Spurly

    Fall Jacket

I ended up buying a Simms wind stopper hoody for a shell, but will still buy a warmer jacket as well. Looking at the Simms Bulkey, if somebody has better suggestions let me know please.
  12. I agree with you. It seems certain people on that site wake up in the morning just looking for a fight. There are still a ton of good people there who will go out of their way to help, and a lot of their best people have quit out of frustration. I think that happens to a lot of forums that get too big, too quick.I very seldom post on AO anymore, and will not put up pics of anything, that's when all hell breaks loose. This forum is has a lot more relaxed attitude, with very knowledgable people, always willing to help or share ideas. Very positive experience so far.
  13. I just went through this process, there are so many good boots out there now it is tough to find the right pair. Try on as many as you can, and walk around the store a little, to see how they feel. In my case I went for the Simms Riverteck 2 with BOA, I liked that they were light, and had drain holes built in. I love the BOA system, I bought mine with felt soles, but with rubber soles they would for sure fill your need as a hiking boot. I have put about 40 days on them, with no issues what so ever. Try as many as you can, and buy what suits, your specific needs.

    Fall Jacket

Thanx for the info so far, plan to spend around $250- $300. I will only be fly fishing till ice up, probably 3-4 weeks.I do not have a gortex shell Yet.
  16. Looking to purchase a Jacket for this time of year, more of a shell, will have base layers underneath. Mostly for still water fishing, on the pontoon boat.needs to be waterproof, and wind proof, with a hood. What are most of you using, or what would be a good recommendation.I am a couple hrs from Calgary, so selection is poor in my area. Thanx in advance. Have looked at the Simms wind jacket, but with exchange and shipping, it gets a bit expensive.
  17. I agree 100% without more enforcement out there, the problem with ATV's is not going away.In my opinion, without designated trails in this area, we are just pushing the problem somewhere else.I walk a lot of miles of creeks and rivers in a season, and, cannot beleive The places along the creeks, that I am seeing ATV tracks. These people are showing complete, disrespect, for these river beds. At the very least we need a ton of signs put up, making these idiots aware of what it will cost them if they are caught destroying, any kind of fish habitat.main trails need to be established, and controlled, as well as enforced. There are lots of responsible riders, who also need to help educate the irresponsible ones, giving all ATV riders a bad name.None of this will happen overnight, but it is good to know it will start happening soon. Forcing some of the random campers into campgrounds may also help, when they check in, theyget a pamphlet with all the do's and dont's.If they don't learn quick, make them pay. Maybe seize a few bikes, word travels quick.
  18. Shimano Canada I believe.
  19. Still looking, if anybody might have one for sale.
  20. Sounds like a nice rod, how was the fishing?had a couple buds do a Float that way, they said tons of other boats. They caught quite a few , but not as large as normal.
  21. About $150- $200. My abilities to tie are still pretty basic, so not sure not sure, if I would know what to look for in a good vice. Is rotary Needed, or just nice to have?
  22. Right now I am just using a cheapo vice, and am looking to upgrade, so looking for recomendations. Some people have mentioned Nor-vice but $300 U.S. Is more than I want to spend on a vice, Also not real sure what kind of options, or upgrades I need. More or less just looking for something good, without breaking the bank, but also something I don't have to keep upgrading. Thanx in advance. Spurly
  23. You may want to look at a TFO Impact, can't beat their warranty, and a very nice casting, and handling rod.
  24. Had a chance to try the Simms Rivertech 2, on the water tonight.they are a very light boot,I bought them with the felt soles so great traction, except on steep grass slopes.there is a lot of plastic in the boot, which makes them a bit stiff, but helps a lot in the weight dept. by not absorbing water. I was a bit concerned about the drain holes, drawing in sand and gravel, but no problem with that tonight, through about 2 km of river.i love the BOA system, easy on, and you can really cynch the boots up tight, super quick to get out of.So far I am very pleased with the boots, looking forward to a few more km. in them tomarrow. If anyone is looking for a new pair of boots, give the Rivertech 2 a look, they may not suit everybody, but a very nice boot all in all.
