Best Local Shops For Beginner Info And Gear?
Snouthunter replied to discodewey's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
Anybody over at fish tales are very helpful, also Steve or josh are very helpful as well and they recently took over west winds fly shop just off southland Dr in the se. -
Hey muffin, the nv-g nautilus is an amazing real light fully sealed drag system. The hardy is a nice reel but the nautilus drag system is something of a trouts nightmare. Down side to nv-g is price vs the dd, and nv-g is a little over kill for trout... If it were me I'd go with the nautilus fwx as the drag is just as good I have several fwx and and haven't had any issues.

Stopped by and took a test cast of this impact rod and actually I have to say tfo has stepped up a little decent looking rod better hardware used, burl cork handle and casting it actually had a good amount of power.

The fishcat 9ir is a superb pontoon boat perfect size, stability, and price isn't too bad
-
The 2250 is a good reel for the drag and retrieve rate.... But finish wise it does get dings very easy. The orvis access reel on the other hand is a good all round reel... If you could budget an extra 100$ I would go with a nautilus fwx, just my two cents

Perception is one of the best. I have run it since its release in late 2013 and have to comment on the cracking that I have not witnessed but I clean and treat my fly line on a regular basis which should be done like anything else, it only takes 5-10 mins! If you wash your car regularly why not your fly line. Only thing about the new rio lines I have a hard time believing is the "self lubricating " which rio boosts about perception.

Just curious what others think of islander reels.. Currently I have an ir3 and the lx3.6 and I'm unsure if I should keep the lx3.6 as I do use my sage reels and ultralight quite frequently. What are your thoughts?

2015 Proposed Bow River Changes
Snouthunter replied to jasonvilly's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
You are right calling them is satisfying.... I have had the pleasure of watching the rap in a boat watching guys then swooping in and ticketing them plus I guess to take their gear too which was quite interesting to watch last year! -
Fishing The Bow In Winter

tl;dr Fly tying exists for a reasoN ^^^you have that right lol^^^ So from the responses I'm not crazy I was worried for a little while ha you guys have brought some good points though I keep for getting to check my guides when I was out good explanation for some casts where I've stood puzzled for a moment... See I have been fly fishing for several years now but never went out during winter also partly no fishing to be had while in the patch. I'm definitely going to be out there this weekend -
2015 Proposed Bow River Changes
Snouthunter replied to jasonvilly's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
I agree with the changes that could be but I think also a big problem is many actually don't know the regs for the bow see a lot of guys spin casting with bait and guys fishing fish creek during closure so maybe high pressure areas they should add in signage for these individuals. Thank you for posting this some good info on there. -
Fishing The Bow In Winter

When it comes to ice I try to stay out of the water but if all is looking good I'll wade out and just keep a close eye I'm sure it's not fun catching a ride from a ice slab. Most days I've been out its been above 4 but that's why I ask to see if I'm just crazy or others are out too -

Lol yeah but that water is something fierce when wading on a cold day but that's a good start for temp at plus five a little more bug activity for midge atleast -
Bike grease never would have thought of that I did think about some synthetic diff oil but kinda pricey lol
-
Hmmm from the website that sounds like I should give it a go not expensive really either a tube should last awhile. Thanks a lot
-
Just curious what others have been using for oiling after cleaning their reels? For awhile I was using loon reel lube but find after a few to many dips in the river your re lubing it I like to keep well maintained gear OCD maybe lol.

Got A Switch Rod For X Mas And Need Some Help Please
Snouthunter replied to Vitalshok's topic in Spey Casters Lounge
I got into the switch rods 6wt to start off with I was using rio switch chucker which is an amazing line but I did however find that using rio mow tips helped casting as the head on the line is 25 feet and with skagit casting they say it should be 3x the rod length correct me if I'm wrong... But usually I have been using either the 10 foot mow that is 5 feet float and 5 feet of either t-8 or t-11 works for me but maybe someone may correct me and I learn something even better. -
Thank you for this always nice to have a local guy to support which we are lacking here I will be sure to do what I can to support him.

Hi this has probably been covered and do apologize if it has. When do you draw the line when fishing in the winter temp wise like just above 0 or do you wait a couple days of good plus weather? I'm not sure how to post pics but last good Chinook we had I caught a decent size around 15" bull trout by glen more bridge and it was a mild day and he took the reese pieces San juan. What thoughts do you guys have?
-
Wow some interesting little inventions I hope more are posted and people don't mind another using their ideas!
-
nice looking deer and healthy rack.
-
I actually have a ultralight 5000 dd and I think it's probably one of the best reels I own the retrieve is pretty amazing but I do however still love my islander reels just something about the way they sound I guess.

Fly Rod Holder For Truck Bed
Snouthunter replied to RunnyD's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
Nice work... Would they still be safe enough to leave your rod strung at full length? -
River etiquette has really taken a shot here... Fishing in the states you come to expect things like that and soon that will be the same here and any river... We just have to many people jumping into the sport and not really sitting down and understanding why many of us chose the sport. However it is nice to own a jet boat but I just don't think the bow is right place but again I don't own one so what do I know. Better to just do the better smile and move on
