  1. i much prefer the 2 stroke dirt bike going up and down the stream 50x then stalling in a deep spot, then waiting for your buddys to come along and help you push and drag it out. why bother with using a car wash at all??? you could just use the boat launch at graves bridge.

lol, reminds of a day trip to the Liv a few years back. Started out at the campsite and made my way downstream . I came across a woman standing in the middle of a fast set of riffles hanging onto a small ATV that was "stuck" in the middle of the river. Apparently Junior decided to be just like dad and drive his pollution machine right through the middle of the river and got stuck. Part of me wanted to just walk by and wave but she was obviously freezing her butt off ( standing waist deep in the middle of the Liv in a pair of shorts and a tank top ) and i didnt want to see that pice of junk go tumbling down the river with her still hanging on. Pulled the dam thing out just as dad came rolling over the hill (beer in hand) in his full size ATV. They both yelled at junior ( not for running across a river but for doing it and getting stuck) without a single word of thx to me. Man i love redneck entertainment.

  2. Really?? we are going to resort to name calling again. it was lowbrow when MV called me a bitch, now you're just turning his words around to call me bitchy, immature, crazy, mean and short-tempered???

And no, i'm certainly not perfect nor do i think i am, nor do i think that everyone else is wrong and that i am right and my poop don't stink. why dont you try to get to know me before passing judgement.

i take a situation and then spend the time to see the multiple sides of each before i do something and act accordingly. i also like to play devils advocate and play off the other side regardless of what my actual opinion is to broaden the horizons of others who take the time to understand, as well as my own. it is healthy to see things from another point of view. very few things are black and white.

i do tend to confuse people when i do that, except the people who know me or those who also take the time to figure it out. since i dont know Heimdallr, i was more surprised that he understood without knowing me and also had the courage to say it. you and MV decided to jump on me and attack my character and call me names and not even bother to ask, what did you mean by what you said or please explain your point of view. and all over a fictional satirical story? i apologize if you or anyone else didnt understand but there is no need to attack me for your incomprehension.

everyone has an opinion and are entitled to them, not everyone is open to taking the time to understand someone else's opinion. which is why what MV said is perfectly stated.

lol, it was not my intent to call you anything.I just thought it extremely amusing and ironic that you didnt make that possible connection as well ( as opposed to immediately tagging your neighbor as the "perfect angel"). Apologies as there was no offence intended. Just laughing at human nature in general

  3. thank you for understanding Heimdallr... i'm just surprised it took that long for someone to clue in

sorry just cant resist( I think its the "im surprised it took that long for someone to clue in" remark that rubbed me the wrong way). You do realize that you are( or could be) the "perfect angel" in MVs little analysis dont you? <--poke--<

  4. i guess i need to dumb this down so that some people understand...

fire frog used the dear abby referrence so i answered using the dear abby standard response. see Bhurt's response where he highlights the satirical yet supportive manner in which i agreed with fire frog attempt to educate his moronic neighbour and at the same time poke fun at the way he illustrated his description of the message delivery

i then went on to say

my point is, although you would be well within your rights to call bylaw and report the washing of cars with chemicals etc and i would certainly support you, if you think about it a little and put yourself in the other guy's shoes for a moment, what would you think...

oh look - to the skim reader who perhaps missed where i said - I SUPPORT YOU. (i capitalized it so, in your blindness, you might not miss it the second time around)

i then went on to show another point of view as fire frog being the guy washing his car but you could subsititue anything or any situation where some person comes up to you and makes a moronic statement... in a manner that could be considered as an attack

and since you didnt understand it the first time... the 'sad' part would be every one thinking that the guy who means perfectly well and passionately about a cause - any cause but who goes about it in a manner where no one understands the what and how and he ends up being not taken seriously and looked upon as the crazy guy who rants about how you use water but since all they hear is blah, blah, blah, water, blah, illegal, blah, blah, i'm going to tell on you, blah,., blah, blah they miss the importance of his message

i was pointing out general human behaviour when confronted in a manner that is COULD be construed as 'in a threatening' manner. which i am sure is NOT what Fire Frog intends - although it cannot speak directly to fire frog's intentions other than statements the first post, where the question is posed, why can't people comply? because we are selfish and think that nothing we do can affect anything and we are special, it's the OTHER guy's fault...

and the little old lady working on her garden, i will clarify for you.

picture any residential street in a new neighbourhood in Calgary, there is a main street with several off shoots of T intersection with cul de sacs. because of the 6-8ft between houses and also because of no back allyes, all the drive ways were in the front, thus not a lot of street parking.

my husband had a work truck, a project truck, his personal truck and my truck. the old lady as you assumed was probably late 30s, maybe pushing 42. the garden, was city property easement space NOT on her property but stretched down the lenght of her fence and she had the corner lot. she had a parking area in her alley. she owned 1 car that was parked in behind house on her property.

do you get the visual here before i move on? she has no reason to park on the side of her house facing the main street, she is planting on city property that faces the main street and because she has the corner lot on a T intersection with the only street parking available because all the driveways on the main street were so close together, there was no where to park.

the project truck was in the garage in various states of being worked on. my husband had a new truck and did not want to park on the street so he had the drive way. the work truck was an old beater and the one i was driving at the time was not much better so we parked across the street. on city property where the general public has every right to park as long as it is moved every 72 hours.

i guess me parking my truck there was fine for the first year we lived there. when my husband got the work truck with his new job that is when the lady starting leaving messages on windshield - which i mentioned. such as but not limited to - move this POS, you cant park here, i'll call the city, on and on etc... one day i was out side and she came running outside and yelled across the street, arms flailing... if you dont move this junker i'll have it towed it is shading my flowers. to which is responded. it is my husband's work truck, i will let him know. to which she said something along the lines of, that's not good enough come move your #$% truck now!!! i went in the house. i proceeded to print off a copy of the court of queens bench parking bylaws and went over to her house and gave them to her. i then told her there was no where else to park, and there is nothing in the bylaw that says we cannot park there. i wont bore you with the rest, however, she called the fire department up to say that the truck was leaking fluids. which it wasnt, they told her that and then told her not to waste their time. she continued to spend the entire summer everytime we came or went screaming out a window, off the patio, from her yard about how we should not be parking in HER parking are in case she felt like parking there. and then she would call bylaw daily to measure how far i was parked from the T intersection. hence the reason WHY i kept parking there. at some point there are people so ignorant, there is nothing else to do with them

i would also like to add the 'garden' was north facing with a fence behind it. it didnt get any sun regardless of whether or not i parked there. and i also said before, IF she had approached me and said, hey look, i would prefer that you didnt park your work truck there, in a nice calm manner in which we could have had a civil conversation and discussed options and alternatives, i would have gladly tried to work something out.

the moral of the story was that if you come off like the crazy lunitic, no one will take you seriously, regardless of the purity of your statement or mission

i was quite frankly just teasing fire frog and offering one of many possible solutions in altering his approach and delivery so that he CAN make a difference to our watershed.

now, perhaps you would like to go back and realize the error of your ways and apologize for calling me a bitch

Just my opinion, but I suspect the ladys biggest beef was you parked your nice vehicles in your driveway and your old beaters right out front of her home( Im guessing she used the flowers as a polite excuse rather than come right out and say that she didnt want someone elses piece of junk sitting in front of her house). I had a similiar experience myself where a guy continually parked his beat up old truck right out front of my house(made for a beautiful view out of my picture window) while parking his new vehicle in his driveway (even though he still had room for his beater). I tried to have them park their eyesore in their own driveway and was met with the same "it isnt illegal so stick it " reponse you gave your neighbour. The more i tried to reason with them the more petty they became (fortunately they didnt have 2 crappy vehicles to purposely annoy me with) so i just left it a lone. 2 sides to every story

  5. Looking for a couple of nights in the pass, much preferably within walking distance of some water to fish after dinner.

    Any recommendations much appreciated.

off topic, but who are the nice folks that own a B&B that used to run a rope across the river to try and keep non paying guests off "their section of the river"

  6. If you do not have a loop a nail knot works well and is easy after a couple of practice runs. I use the clipped end off of a pen refill tube. Seal the end/knot with UV knot sense, aquaseal or crazy glue.

    P

buy a knot tying tool for 6 bucks, attach it to your vest/lanyard and save yourself a ton of hasssle ( nail knot is what i personally use).

  7. I had a similar problem with an IR3. The pawl had worn a groove in the ratchet wheel after about 3 seasons. I sent it to Islander and they were great. They not only replaced the ratchet wheel, but the pawls and spring. The reel came back looking like new. All it cost me was about $15 to ship it to Victoria. Islander all the way. Terry

    Terry,

Im glad to hear they took care of you. The immediate response I got tells me they will do the same fore me.

  8. OK, do it your way. I'm just trying to help you bypass the "standard procedures", that's all.

    j

    Jack,

thank you very much for your help. I emailed islander over the weekend and their was an immediate response this morning from Barry Stokes @ Isalnder. He has requested i send it in (which i will do tomorrow) for a look see. Again, i really like this reel when its working. I will let you all know how it all plays out.

    Thx again,

    Y

  9. WOW !! I now have eight Islanders of which five are IR series. They are definitely not decorations, I use them a lot and thankfully under stress at times. I have yet to change out a pawl!

I'd almost be inclined to send the reel back to Islander and have them take a look at it, to see if there are some alignment issues or something.

If you want to do this on your own(no dealer involved with a "version" of your problem) them PM me and I will give you a specific address and contact name who can make sure it is dealt with.

    j

after about ones years use after purchasing it new i noticed i had almost zero drag on the max setting.I took it apaprt and saw that there was a groove worn in the pawl. I took it to the local shop I bought it from ansd they directed to me islander website. I explained problem and they sent me a new pawl and a tube of grease with cleaning instructions.I installed new pawl, ensured it moved freely and cleaned reel after every use. 1 1/2 years later and the same deal. A groove in the new pawl. I am going to email islander again and see what they will do. I was thinking of asking for a replacement reel this time. I will let you all know how it works out.

again, when it is working it is a beautiful reel. i obviously got a lemon

  10. You can get Islander IR4LAs out of the States for under 3 bills Canuck, ain't no finer click/pawl out there

I have the IR3 and have had nothing but problems. I have had to replace the pawl (I believe that is what the small adjustable piece that the center gear assy runs against is called). I thought perhaps i wasnt cleaning it properly and had islander send me a tube of grease/cleaner the first time I had them send me a replacement pawl. Once again i am having to email them for parts ( they wouldnt give me an extra the first time). Agree its a nice reel when working but IMO, it aint worth the hassles. I would go with disc drag if I ever bought islander again

ps. anyone else have this issue with the IR series

  11. Its a new day and age...these kids know they get in little or no trouble for doing this, and if you catch them....what can you do....if its what im thinking you get charged with assult.

its not considered assault if the poor young fellows accidentally fall down and get all banged up while you are chasing them .

  12. Re the IOC criticizing women's hockey because it's "uncompetitive." I think the real problem for the IOC, is that the Europeans aren't competitive. Those of us old enough to remember the alpine and nordic skiing events back in the 60's, 50's and earlier (count me out on remembering earlier than the 50's) will recall that it was all European skiers gathering up the medals. I don't remember the IOC being too concerned about that. And as for the Canadian women smokin and drinkin, good on 'em, they deserved to celebrate. I thought the pictures of their "party" were a hoot, and the IOC can stuff it. Terry

you know what. it wasnt that long ago that the mens teams from russia, sweden, and canada used to blow out teams like switzerland, germany and norway. Now those games are pretty dam close. would be a shame to give up on the womans game just yet.

  13. I can probably find an off.......

Can someone please explain to me why it is that Canada always needs all this time to "gel"? It's like every Olympics. Why don't the other nations need time to "gel"? They are a bunch of NHL'ers too, at least the good teams.

You have the best players (except possibly Russia). Quit worrying about gelling and go out and win the damn thing.

every other team has 6-10 superstars (including the russians and swedes) and a bunch of role players. The stars score and the other guys try to be good defensiveley.

Team canada is superstars from top to bottom (except maybe chris pylon) so a lot of guys have to take on different roles. Thus time is needed for these guys to adapt(see gel) to their new roles as well as new teammates. Canada is the only nation that could easily ice 2 high quality teams for this tourney.

Understand your excitement Rickr as your team just knocked off the tourney favorites but lets not get to carried away. Millers exceptional play and brodeurs/prongers brain farts were the only reason the game ended up as it did. I expect we would have had to beat the ruskys at some point anyways so the only difference is we get a warmup tilt agains the germans

  14. maybe I should take up that stance. It would be easier to have no rooting interest then the NHL's joke of officiating wouldn't bother me. ONE f*^&&*n powerplay for the flames tonight? They were hooked and coughed up the puck BECUASE they were hooked, on TWO ottawa goals. and the first one was a PP goal that was set up by a lame penalty. And what's with stajan getting brutally crosschecked to the ice trying to recieve a pass with about 3m left and no call? typical flames game. Bend over and take it.

agree. IMO, Auger has it in for all the western canadian teams. The call on white that led to the PP was brutal. Then in the faceoff the ottawa forward hangs on to mayers stick while kovalev tees it up(he proceeds to miss the net by 10 feet buts caroms it in off a flames froward). The missed calls the rest of the game were bad enough but the topper was the cheapy on Jbo late in the game.

That being said, the additions looked fantastic last night and for the most part the flames dominated one of the hottest teams in the league. Hagman, iginla and stajan were on fire(the 2 goals were absolute beautys), and higgins/kotalik had at least 7 good chances last night. Overall the 4 forwards we added all had extremely good games and the flames deserved a lot better than what they got last night. Again, patience Brian, I think these guys may be able to make some noise when they have all their guys back (bourque, dawes, moss).

ps. god giordano looks good.he looks so confident with the puck and has really developed that nasty edge to his game as well. gonna cost Dutter some money when its comes to contract time for that guy. the other guy they MUST leave in the lineup is Baklund. Hes good defensively, isnt shy about the rough stuff, and you can see hes starting to gain confidence in the offenssive end. This kids gonna be really good and needs to stay with the big team.

  15. I agree. Schenn is paying better too. Solid goaltending. Looks good - Edmonton should be happy - Overall a much better team after the trade and will only get better going forward..

Oh wait - were you talking about Calgary? Looked very similar to me tonight.

what in the name of hockey does edmonton have to be happy about. Taylor hall wont sign for that mickey mouse club even if they do draft him so Lowes master plan of loosing the last 40 games of the season may back fire. Fortunately the majority of the oiler fan base are a little "challenged" so they continue to buy into the 15 year rebuilding process but eventually they will figure it out and get a little annoyed(especially the poor SOBs who got conned into season tickets this year).

ps.we were loosing 10 straight pre trade and had a PP that was 1- 1000. Since the deals we are 2-1-1 and have a PP that can score once in a while. still not convinced these trades wont work out. patience............

  16. It could be lots of things we are not in the dressing room every time he is, maybe he didn't like the players, maybe he hated the coach or the front office staff, maybe he wants to go to a team that is a top contender for a stanely cup, could be alot of reason to leave, we will never know the truth until he tells us why.

could be hes going to russia for 130 million................................................

  17. Actually for the last three years I have subscribed to the NHL ticket and get the flames package on Pay for veiw so I watch alot more hockey then you might think. I might not understand all the fine little details surrounding hockey but I understand the game enough.

All I have to say is that to turn down 100 million over ten years there has to be a reason and I highly doubt it has anything to do with wanting more money, just think of it this way he goes to a team that wins a stanely cup how much money you think he will get in indorsements, I bet you alot more money then he would get by playing in any of the other leagues out there.

Oh and for the record when you score as much as ovekin you don't need to stop shots (Never knew a forward to be resonsable for stoping pucks isn;t that the job of defense men?) cause if you do and get hurt those goals are no good for the team as the player is now riding the pine.

Also when Detroit was winning their cups you think that it was won just by yzerman? It was a whole team effort even from the russian players, to think anything diffrent is crazy.

Lets look at Patric Roy when he left montreal, he was already a very successful goile but he had problems with the coach and didn't want to be there anymore, so he signed a deal with the avs and won another couple of cups there.

Lets also look at eric lindros when he came into the league, refused to play for qubec cause they were not a contendor and screwed himself over as the next year they moved to Colorado and won a cup.

Since I have been watching hockey since 88 (Yeeep like I said since 1988) I have seen many high end players leave teams to go to other teams for less money, it happens all the time, look at how many teams brett hull played through the course of his carrer.

My point in the end is it doesn;t matter where a player comes from money talks and bullshit walks espically in professional sports regardless to what sport it is

LOL, sorry bhurt but theres so much wrong with this post Im not sure where to start but will give it a go anyways.

1- he turned down the league max from atlanta because he knows he can get more for playing less in the KHL. Again, you will see this when he signs in the KHL this summer

2- While I agree that 3 whole years of watching the flames on PPV elevates you to near expert status, quality teams and quality players do everything they need to do to win. Including blocking shots. The secret to the Avs success this year is they lead the entire league in blocked shots and every guy on the team is willing to do it. Teams that win 16 games in the post season also have every guy on board when it comes to sacrificing the body. This is one of the nuances of the game you may have missed.

3-when detroit was winning cups they were led by yzerman, shanahan, maltby, draper and others. Datsuk, larionov, and the other russians were good "accessories" but for anyone who watched those great Wing teams there was no question who the leaders were.

4-patrick roy left montreal because his coach embarassed him by leaving him in to be shelled for 7 goals in a nothing game. Coach was fired at the end of the year and the habs went in the pisser. Had nothing to do with money

5-cant argue much about lindros although i believe his dad was born in moscow (saw it on NHL ticket one night) <--poke--<

6-A)Brett hull is an american. B) when exactly did he sign for less money when he went to other teams?

  18. I bet he just hated atlanta and he will sign for ovy / crosby money somewhere. 8-9 mil.

I would be surprised if he signs for less than league maximum anywhere (I believe that is the 10.75 mill. that atlanta offered him) and I dont know how many GMs out there are willing to commit 1/5 of their cap to a a guy who may or may not decide to try and earn his money.

Im not sure what there was for him to hate about Atlanta. He was treated like a king, had no pressure in a non hockey market, great weather, was offered the biggest contract in NHL history, the team was playing decent ( last time i checked they were still in the playoffs) and management seemed to be doing everything they could to make the team better.

  19. I've worked with Russians. And Swedes. And Finns. And Norwegians. And Canadians. And Americans. Add French, Malaysian, Indonesian, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Italian, Spanish, Egyptian, Iraqis, Iranians, Lebanese, Nigerian, Algerian, Congolese, South Africans, every single South America country and probably a whole bunch others I can't think of right now.

After you boil off the cultural differences, they are pretty much all the same. I've never noticed any difference in work ethic. I'm quite sure the same would apply to hockey players. The myopic may not agree.

And if somebody offered me double the money I'm making now to go work in Russia, I might do it. Why should hockey players be different?

Its not so much work ethic as a tradition thats ingrained in canadian hocky players from the time the learn to skate. Its all about team goals and the ultimate goal is the stanley cup. I recognize that players like AO and Kovy worked dam hard to be as good as they are but i just dont think the SC is a big a deal to them(Again, Im fairly certain either OA or Kovy would rather have 200 points seasons or olympic gold).

I also dont think they have the loyalty to NHL teams that canadian players have. When Iginla signed for 7 million a year it was no secret he could have made 8-9 if he had opted to free agency. For Kovy to turn down a 10 year 110 million dollar contract ( would have made him the highest paid player in nhl history) from the team that drafted him is BS.

Not trying to go all Don Cherry on anyone, but seeing him turn down that offer made me want to puke.
