  1. As a registered society aren't they required to have elections at their annual general meeting? Wouldn't the better way to facilitate change be to run for elected positions yourselves and affect change from within rather than posting a rant on an internet forum?
  2. No point in adding new regs until they have the manpower to enforce the existing ones.
  3. Yeah, it has gotten pretty stale to the point where some exhibitors are in the exact same spot every year it seems. Like you I go mainly to catch up with people I haven't seen since the previous year's expo, but I guess as long as we keep going the organizers won't have any reason to change things up.
  4. I was talking stonefly nymphs not dries. I don't fish nymphs a whole lot but I know lots of people use those jimmy legs almost year round and get fish on it. I was stirring the pot more than anything with that suggestion. Now for streamers, a simple leech is good, but I think you also need to have at least one baitfish type pattern like a Clouser or sculpin (BRB) in there.
  5. No stonefly nymphs or Clousers? I tried this once before and while you can get away with a smaller number of nymph patterns I've found it a lot more difficult to do with dries on the Bow, especially if they're only keyed on emergers or spent wings.
  6. Ugh, I want to agree with you but I can't. Complete shutdowns (not like the temporary closures last summer) can be a slippery slope that produces all sorts of other unintended consequences.
  7. I'm cautiously optimistic but without additional funding for enforcement this will be no more than a bunch of hot air. Quads already break the law regularly out there, so adding more laws/protection will do very little without the means to enforce them.
  8. Haven't been out fishing but here are some random shots from the past couple weeks. 9. Tried it years ago. Didn't find it any better or worse than Rio.
  10. Yeah, they are pretty killer laces. I have them on my hiking boots as well and have yet to break a pair.
  11. At least laces are only a few bucks to replace and a spare pair don't take up a lot of space in your pack or vest. I use these as replacements and haven't ever had a pair break: http://www.marks.com/shop/en/marks/footwear/footwear-accessories/54-lace-38653

  13. You need a business license to operate - can't just rent space at the mall and start selling stuff. Depending on the business you may also require certain insurance, for example I'm pretty sure gyms and recreation facilities need to carry a certain amount of liability insurance.
  14. The Windstopper hoody is pretty good for fall and spring especially since the wind is what gets to you the most. Instead of getting the Bulkley jacket I'd look at picking up an insulated mid-layer to wear underneath the Windstopper hoody unless you need something waterproof. I've mostly been wearing Arcteryx insulation layers because I can also wear them around town and Arcteryx is based in Burnaby. When you call Arcteryx customer service a real live person in Burnaby picks up the phone (not even a menu system!) and helps you without having to transfer you to five other people. If you need to send something back for repair under their lifetime warranty you don't have to deal with cross-border shipping either. Take a look at the Atom series for synthetic insulation or the Thorium series if you want down.
  15. I haven't seen any reviews of them but I wore a pair all summer and loved them. Put a lot of miles on them on a lot of different rivers too. Found they were comfortable and I have bad knees so that says a lot.
  16. This. Working dogs that don't get lots of exercise will put their energy to other uses, like destroying your house while you're not home.
  17. That's what I used to think but I hardly use my D750 since I got the X-T1. It's so much lighter and easier to carry around and still has awesome image quality.
  18. You mean the closeup of the scales? That was a mega crop in LR. Pretty impressive for a little mirrorless APS-C sensor since I used to shoot full-frame DSLR.
  19. I wore the Vapor boots with Vibram soles all summer, but as a wet wading boot on the Bow, Crow, Oldman, Liv, and various tribs. Never had a problem with traction on any of those streams. With waders I wear the G3 Guide boots and like bcube I plan on sticking with them. Tried the G4s with the Boa laces and rapidly learned that I hate that lacing system, so went back to the G3s.
  20. Yup, my buddy had fishing gear stolen from his garage when he opened the door and went back inside to grab something he forgot. This wasn't from a "bad" neighbourhood either.
  21. Not sure if it would damage anything unless any of it is wet. Considering how much rods, reels, waders, etc. are worth I like to store all of mine inside where it's also safer from theft than the garage.
  22. Some of the last pics of the season. A couple from the Oldman a couple weeks ago and a few from yesterday. 23. Which base did you get to? No wait, don't answer that...
  24. Looks like you're not alone. http://calgaryherald.com/news/local-news/scientist-calls-springbank-the-least-worst-option-for-flood-mitigation
  25. Ah yep, depends on temps. http://esrd.alberta.ca/fish-wildlife/wild-species/fish/salmon-trout-related/brown-trout/brown-trout.aspx "In Alberta, brown trout spawn from October to December, when water temperatures fall below 8 to 10◦C (46 to 50◦F)."
