Hi DutchDryfly and CDone.
Do you know where I can test the Elixir or Tonic lines? (Calgary)
Thanks
South Bow carries them not sure what they have in stock, I have a 320 tonic you can test drive if you want, send me a PM.

Elixer 295 grain is all I say.
Or the Tonic 320gr, enjoy your "Trour Spey" (check the label)

I actually caught 4 fish while reading this
well, theres coffee all over my keyboard!!!
To the OP, read the report again, 3 guys, all day, 30 fish, thats only 10 fish each. So going by the laws of fisherman, you multiply that number by 6 divide by the number of guides on your rod, count the number of fingers on your left hand and subtract 2 and that should give you a pretty accurate number. And once you've done all that, go fishing and keep or don't keep count, because in the end does it really matter?

Just seeing if there are any machinists with a bit of spare time that might want to help out on a little project I have in mind. It would be rod building related so might be able to come up a trade for a custom rod for machine work/materials (Stainless).
PM for more info

P.S.S. Colin (CDone), what the hell was that AWESOME Sirrius 80's alternative station we listened to on the way to and from Don's fish study trip near Caroline?! I need to tattoo it on myself so that when asked "if you have a station you want to listen to" I can actually come up with an answer!!

I've had bad/poor results with Frog Hair (bad spools??), Use Rio a lot, especially their Flouroflex Plus tippet for streamers and nymphing.

To echo what headscan said, figure out how much you are willing to pay and head out to some shops and test cast some rods. We can all suggest to you what we 'think' will be right for you but ultimately it has to feel right to you (and be in your price range) and only you can decide that.

That is what clued me in too me in. Seeing so called local grown signs next ro the bins with Mexico boxes piled up next to the truck. I notice that all the veggies in various stall that are advertised to be from various farms are exactly the same which doesn't make sense. I guess I'll go for a drive this weekend out of town and see if there are any signs for produce.
Check out the fall issue of City Palate citypalate.ca page 25, there is a great listing of most of our local suppliers, what their products are and where you can get them.

Just out of curiosity after coming across this thread, what is done differently in Alberta that has kept this problem away? Designated campgrounds? More enforcement? Tougher consequences? I've never camped on the other side of the rocks so would be interested to hear from those who have experienced both. Thank you.
Nothings really been done Rodney, I think our population base is a lot smaller than the LML so we don't see the levels that you guys get out there. There are definitely more campgrounds within and hour or so of the city so I think that helps to contain some of the rowdies (except maybe on the long weekends). I never meant to say we don't have problems but seeing what continually goes on in the Chilliwack Valley, it certainly gives us some perspective of what could possibly happen here.

Funny, I didn't find the prices at Crossroads any less.
As much as I support local (30 plus years as a Chef, busting my @ss trying to source as much local product as possible), I sometimes think we are being taken advantage of by everyone all the way up the grocery chain because we've been led to believe that we are truly supporting the small guy.
Next time you're at the farmers market take a look at the empty boxes in the stalls, that will tell you where all that 'local' produce is coming from.

My last pair of waders before the ones I currently have were a pair of Wardels purchased from Hanson's when they still had a shop in Vancouver got 5 seasons out of them, still have them hanging around in case of emergency. I'm now on my 4th season with my Snowbee XS-pro's and no signs of leaks, I usually have over 150 days a year on the water and I don't 'baby' my gear but I do take care of it.

Northern Pike Minnow, body shape will vary depending on type of water i.e. lake or river. Used to catch lots off the back of the house boat on the Shuswap.
I remember as a kid dragging a huge one (7+lbs) up on the shore on the Kootenay Lake north of Nelson

Is it just the metal cap that goes in the end? if so I've got a few around here, not sure if I have NS finish but have some chrome and gunsmoke.

use a "lite" rod finish and inject or let it flow into the gap if you're not into removing the rings. I've had to use this method on repairs where the grip and seat are replaced but the customer doesn't want the signature area removed, so the grip has to come up from the butt end. Always leaves a bit of a gap which I fill with dry wall tape shims and epoxy. very solid fix with no movement.

I think Gord at West Winds might have them on - wait for it - VHS. Maybe a couple of the other Calgary shops might have some also.
Thanks for the nice comments.

Damn, and I just threw out my old VCR, I'm really surprised these haven't showed up on You Tube or the likes.

something to think about s well, if your boots are coming apart at the seams more than likely it is because they don't fit properly and your feet are moving around and putting stress where it shouldn't be. Your boots should fit snuggly with your waders on and there should be very little wiggle room, same as any comfortable footwear.

Very Nice!!

we've got it pretty good on this side of the Rocks, look what the folks in the LML have to deal with on a regular basis

I had forgotten just how bad it gets on the Veddar, nice to be reminded just what we have (blow-up dolls and all)

Quirk Ck and kill some frickin' brookies.... w/beau coup respect of course
Even with zero retention? Something I've always wondered, or are brookies exempt from the regs in Quirk?

Don't forget all the controversy b/c the boxes are now manufactured off shore in sweat shops some where in Asia!!
But I'll put Canada flags on them so they'll be fine.
-
And we all know how "trendy" things get in fly fishing!!
P
Yup, pretty soon everyone will be extolling the virtues of the newest Loop box or GLoomis's re-design of the 'box' (which they will quickly have to recall due to the flaps not being the right size). I'm already outfitting my shop to build 'custom' boxes, where will it end.
-
Just fine Taco, though I hope it doesn't rain while I'm wearing it!!
P
Just wrap it in tin foil, that will keep the rain out
-
Face it, you saw a box that size and figured they sent you a couple reels or something, then you opened it and reality sank in

Below the falls on either side used to produce fish when I was a kid, as well as the Spray River 8 to 10 Km's up. And there was a time when every little beaver pond held lots of willing brookies. Not sure of the regs there now a days as its been 30 years since I fished it.
