I believe Forecast/Pac Bay has blue chrome guide(BLSNG). Not sure what ever became of the holographic guide, out of the 300 rods or so that I've built I've never had a request for them.

Airflo lines are also PVC. Having used both types I can't say I've noticed much difference, except that PVC sticks to the water more resulting in more "line ripping" when you lift it to cast. Great for a sustained anchor cast, not so good for size 20 dries.
Actually I've found the complete opposite compared to other lines, higher floating equates to less line on the water, so less 'line ripping' when lifting.
There are plenty of lines out there, each has its pluses and minuses, its up to the buyer to decide which is best for them.

Great flies Gary!!
I'm not against using synthetics in my patterns, there are a number of pre-made extended bodies on the market that work really well, and I always keep a few patterns in my boxes.
This is a damselfly/mayfly nymph (callibaetis) that I've had some success on over the years.
Body is larva lace with a few strands of antron and flash pulled through, very durable.

Wonder if it might have something to do with EHV-1? http://www.sprucemeadows.com/press/view_release.jsp?id=104

Just checked and nothing is on this weekend.

Thats because I'm a month ahead of all of you, oops!!

Based on the schedule BBT posted, I see no tournaments starting today. First one doesn't go until next week.
Not sure why they would ban anyone starting today?
Continental is on this weekend, spent many evenings picnicking at the lake last summer, just made sure not to go on any of the weekends that an event was on. http://www.sprucemeadows.com/experience/

We forget that fish in a lake will usually out weigh a similar stream raised fish every time, 22 inch 5 lb fish are not that uncommon from a lake with a good forage base.
Nice fish Jeremie

I always thought the license's were used as a management tool for fisheries ( i.e how many anglers are out there). As our population ages would it not make sense for persons over 65 to at least have a valid WIN card so the government has an idea of how many anglers (of all ages) are on the water. The Federal Gov does it with saltwater licenses, under 16 and over 65 are free but you still need to go through the process of the license as well as purchase any required stamps.

Overton's-don't see that much anymore. Looks like you've been busy.
Regards Mike
My Overtons is close to 30 years old, will be very sad the day it runs out.
Nice ties Lornce, need to work on my soft hackle patterns for the upcoming small stream season.

Then there's guys who collect and fish vintage rods and pay 12-14 times new value...........
Now who would be that crazy???
-
The reel is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it, at least that's what my Econ prof told me years ago...
Too True, its amazing what collectors will pay for Islanders and Hardy's. I think Taco's thinking as far as price is pretty spot on, you don't see to many (if any) bargain prices on Islanders.

No hiring necessary, once the weather warms up shoot me a PM and we can get out, I've got a few lines that should work well on the WW as well as a few rods you can try also (might as well start the addiction now

Heres another one to drool over http://vimeo.com/17973045
The video about the Clay's is fantastic, recognized some of the water they were fishing, makes me realize how much I miss being out on the Coast.

So I've been doing quite a bit of lake fishing over the past couple of years and had good success. But never on chironomids unless I am with a guide. I know all about colour and where they need to be in the water column and the different techniques. The part that's stumps me is, does the leader need to be 25% longer then the actual depth when using a strike indicator? I use the forceps trick to figure out the depth if I don't have my finder.
Thanks in advance boys! Tight lines!
If using an indicator your fly needs to hang straight down, so your leader length is dictated by the depth of the water and where the fish are in the water column. i.e. fish feeding at 15ft then your fly needs to be 15ft below your indicator.

Not a movie, but really enjoy the 'Top Gear' series.

Looking forward to seeing both Diane and her husband Dennis, one of the reasons I look forward to the show is to see some old familiar faces from my days on the coast.

Colin,
Yeah I know, but I want to "try" a 3 1/2...
Just thinking out loud!!

I'd put more stock into the actual taper of the line than what the box says. If you are set on a 3wt line I would suggest looking at a DT line instead of a WF it will definitely improve the accuracy of the rod although not the distance as this rod does require a 4wt to load it properly, hence the reason Dan suggested it as a 4wt.
I'm sure most shops would offer a refund on a line that was returned with original packaging and in re-sale condition, so you may have to pay to settle your curiosity.

Hmm, wasn't this rod originally supposed to be fished as a 4wt as per your requirements? Dan felt this blank would be the best fit as a 4wt in the action, length and pack-ability you were looking for.
Not saying it won't cast a 3wt line, I was able to test cast a 3wt Rio Trout line on it no problem, just took a little 'adjustment' of my casting stroke and timing, but with a 3wt line this rod excels at distances under 30ft making it a great small stream rod. For a 4wt I test cast a Greys Platinum WF4 with a 40' head and the rod loaded and performed effortlessly.

How about 'all of the above' ?

I had elbow problems (dis-located due to a ski accident) for years, took up fishing with a Spey rod and have been relatively pain free for many years now. I do fish a single hander, I just try to use the spey rod in between as much as possible. I still find after the 3rd or 4th day in a row with a single hand rod that I have some pain and swelling. I've tried quite a few different braces as well as physio but find that when I start to ache the best thing is to do is start swinging the spey rod.

I have 4 corners in my shop, all full.
Peter that looks like a rack to hold maps or blue print tubes.

Take a look at Walker Bay boats , we had an 8' for quite a few years and it was very light and fairly stable, price is around what you are looking to spend, sometimes they show up on craigslist for a decent price.
