  1. I normally cheap out on waders but I have spent more money replacing cheap ones than I would have spent on one good pair. I am 6"2 and 160 lbs(skinny), What size should I get? I'm looking at the sims freestone waders are they a good choice? What are some other options for me to look at?
  2. Quote: Is it fully collapsible? Because it will be needed to fit into a backpack for a over 10kms the fishcats are deadly some kid was crusing in super shallow with them and hammering the big bows with no wake at amber No, I'm saying that the one your looking at might be heavy because my fishcat pontoon boat is heavier than a lot of other brands of pontoon boats. It might just be that my steel frame is thicker or it might be the material I don't know. If its the material than there is probably a lighter brand out there for your hiking boat.
  3. Fishcats are awesome boats but they aren't very light. My pontoon boat weights twice as much as my dads water skeeter. It may just be my frame though so I wouldn't worry about it...
  4. That's a good looking fly, and I agree that ggp improved it great job. Do you skate it or just dead drift it? Kinda looks like an emerger and it kinda looks like an adult... or is it laying eggs
  5. Very nice
  6. I like to keep my hand that's holding the line low and lift up with the rod hand fairly high. This will increase the speed of your line by adding the speed of the line going through the guides to the speed of your rod tip. Also as always try to keep your line as tight as you can without affecting the natural drift of the fly and make sure your hooks are good and sharp.
  7. Here is a few favorites of mine I like to get them on top water. Much more exciting.
  8. Yeah I wrap the lead without tying it in too, it makes a more even body rather than having the bump from where you tied it in
  9. I was at Mitchell lake this fall and I saw an older fellow with his rod bent right over for like ten minutes. Finally I headed over to see what he had on and I helped him land a beautiful 23+ inch brown trout. I took a picture for him and he said he would pick it up the next day and he did. He also gave me a beautiful net he made. It's my favorite net I have he said he makes a bunch of them every year and gives them to friends and stuff. I'll have to take a picture of it sometime when I don't have so much homework. It's not quite as nice as the nets on here though wow great job!
  10. I'm 16 and I got my parents to let me do stuff like that by building trust. Take them out fishing one day or take a few local one night trips. Slowly work your way to bigger outings and after a while they won't even worry if you are half way across Alberta for a week. At least it worked for me haha. Now I just need a Toyota 4runner (dream fishin machine) and my drivers license and I'll be as free as a bird. It also helps if a family member is a good hunting or fishing buddy, me and my dad are either out hunting or fishing every chance we get and that's probobly where a lot of my trust was gained.
  11. Thanks 420 and SilverDoctor. It doesn't take that long to tie either.
  12. Stonefly Parachute Boatman
  13. Nice flies. You don't glue the tails together?
  14. I picked up three hackle capes for dry flies finaly and some scientific anglers mastery series fly line for my 4wt. I'm having trouble casting my old line without the leader pilling up. I was using double tapered rio before and I don't think it was enough to load the fast rod. So I figure a weight forward line will turn out alright. Almost picked up a $300 z-axis 4wt but changed my mind since I've got a 4wt already and it's only used occasionally. I enjoyed the show very much, thanks to all who were involved.
  15. Those are really nice pike would kill them
  16. The tail wasn't really the problem it was that the fly wanted to tip side ways. But you did give me an idea, if I were to split the tails like a real mayfly maybe it would be more sturdy and not tip over. Also I could try to add another hackle but it might turn into a sloppy mess. I'll post Pics of the finished product soon. Now that I look at the pic closer the tails are split. If anyone was under the impression I tied that fly I didn't lol. Just making sure
  17. Haha no, fashion decided to start using hackles as stuff to put in your hair which in turn put the price way up to the point I'm not willing to buy them. You wouldn't believe my high school, probably 30% of the girls put a couple feathers in their hair. Notre Dame consists of approximately 1350 students in grades 10 – 12. Thats 405 hackles gone. That's about 1215 flies gone if you were to make three for every feather. Keep in mind they all probably have a few different colors and that's just one school.
  18. Thanks I'll give it a try
  19. Alright I guess I'll tie a few up for next year, thanks
  20. These look like a great idea if they sat upwards instead of sideways, has anyone tried them? I made one and it does sit upright for a bit but then tips over as with most flies I tie. This is because I am out of decent hackle and am stuck with the 1" long ones from my first tying kit. Fashion do you see what you have done!
  21. Speaking of crane flies I see quite a few along the shore of stauffer creek, any one have any luck with them?
  22. First one works for me and the second one that says "lake leech fly" doesn't Here's a pic of the video And thank you bcube I will look at country pleasure next time I go to Calgary.
  23. I'll try again This http://m.youtube.com/index?desktop_uri=%2F...h?v=gFkexMuA6F0 or this should work Lake leech fly
