  1. I honestly may never buy another rod shorter then 10' I find it does everything really well and is as maneuverable as a short rod on everything but the smallest creeks..... thats just me though I will likely go even longer if I can find something in a lighter weight then most longer rods

    like this

the last one must be a sweet rod I may have to place an order........

  2. Cool story. Sounds a lot like the bull I caught yesterday cept mine took a golden stone. That and mine had about 30 seconds of really good fight in him before he tired.

I once landed a mid size rainbow and as I was unhooking (a beautiful hookset to the corner of the mouth) I noticed a piece of fishing line coming out the back end of the fish and hanging out about a foot...... So I gave it a gentle tug and realized that it was still attached to a hook. I looked in the mouth and saw a small nymph caught deep inside. The line had managed to make its way through but the hook had not. So I pulled the fly out and the line came all the way through. Fly was an oddball (I believe a a gray nymph pretty basic but with a blood red tail) so I tied it on and caught a dozen or so fish on it. That fly saved what had started out as a pretty slow day..... And I am pretty sure that the fish didn't miss it either

  3. Oh and I should mention that I do often use a net but I feel it doesn't quicken the process much..... that said early season on the bow river ice...... you need a net to land fish safely in a lot of spots IMHO, same deal in a pontoon boat when landing larger fish. I don't really feel that the fish are gonna be much more exhausted by the lack of a net as I find if you can get em close enough to net you can get a hand on your line and the process is just as fast...... Having someone else net your fish on the other hand can take some time off of the fight especially if they land the fish a ways away from you while its still really fresh.........

  4. Yeah I usually try to fish with a moderately strong line for the fish I am trying to catch and once they are coming in I just slid em up to my leg keep tension on the line with my hand, stick the rod in the armpit and pop the hook out. If you do have to handle em then rolling them on their back seems to work well to calm them down. And when picking them up there is a sweet spot (seems to be on the underside behind the head and gills) and if you put finger tips on this area they usually stay very still. Seems to me the smaller the fish the harder it is to hold them without them squirming. I find the most important thing is your knots and your leaders lack of wind knots. Had to tippet down to 6x nymphing the highwood yesterday (forgot my stronger leaders) and in the first hole I took about a 23-25 inch bull trout on the bottom dropper. Even though he took me 30yards downstream I still managed to land em in about a minute without a net...... you can put a lot of pressure on 6x IF your knots are really well tied and tested before you hook a fish. I usually pull on my knots (while rigging) until I think I am just under the lines breaking strength and when doing this I find 3 outta 5 knots (on 6x) break too easy and need to be retied but when you have a strong rig 3lb breaking strength is more then enough for a big fish. At the end I just grabbed the line popped the hook and since I had no camera man I let him swim away without ever leaving the water..... Got a big splash of water in the face for my troubles as well.

Tailing a big atlantic....... never tried but its gotta be tougher methinks

Oh and I am no Pro this is just my own crazy beliefs. I just talk here cause I got nothing better to do.

  5. Yeah understandable thats why I don't post my face on here we have enough ladies on here already. And you guys would get sick of the "Chris marry me!" threads and the "Lone Fisher is such a hunk" threads pretty quick....... AHHHH sometimes its a curse.........

  6. no problem MTB go right ahead. And as per your message I can send you the big files if you prefer I just figured in this scale they would likely be big enough but if you want the full size pics I think they run around 3500 pixels each and I can email you the ones you want. A couple were off other cams as well and I may not have the full size files. Anyways just let me know

  7. Use stronger line man! Last time I was down I fished 10lb mono and landed every fish I hooked. Come summer time I go lighter but I usually never fish lighter then 5x even with the tiny stuff. And you will soon hook a couple of the rainbows that make you think that way if you spend much time down there. The cutts are the pushovers in that stream.

  8. asked this in the parking lot at the top of the spray lakes hill above canmore by an older german woman with her husband

G-umm vat dis dat sign mean ve drive past?

    Me- Sorry what sign??

G- vell it said effalance areea? No stopping

Me- effalance..... effalance hmmmm avalanche area? avalanche area no stopping

    G- what does it mean?

Me- avalanche means the snow can fall down and hit the road (this is accompanied with some very vague hand gesturing which were apparently misinterpreted to mean that the mountain was going to fall over)

Her face turns almost white she turns and hits her husband and starts giving him *hit in German all I caught was something along the lines of I told you not to stop there.

I tried to explain that the major concern was about snow and that since it was spring and the snow was gone it it was not so dangerous but I don't think the point ever got accross.

  9. Hey I think a couple of these were posted on the other site but since someone mentioned it I figured I would post some pics of the k lakes from this year. Heres a few of the first batch the rainbows..... (ok a couple bulls slipped in as well) Still have to add a couple more to the rainbows but I gotta get em off my cam. I have a pic of bloom with a rediculous bow from the lower...... now to find my camera LOL

Anyways first photo post on the new site so enjoy.......... that is if it works of course good chance I screwed something up

I will try and post the bulls tommorrow or sometime

  10. I was once asked how old a random tree was..... I looked and pretended to think and said 145 years old give or take.

I am much more inclined to BS when I am not working.

Once had a yankee ask a co worker what sort of scrambled eggs she was eating because they were so yellow, he replied without missing a beat. They're special eggs imported from france, she was thrilled...... In truth..... they came out of a bag from bridgebrand I believe.

I was once asked what the rules were for climbing trees...... I was stumped with that one

I also love being asked if my accent is Canadian.

I once asked where an american was from he replied new york...... So I said which province is that again? Ontario?

    Playing dumb is fun sometimes.
