  1. Also the James, Teepee pole, Williams, Willson, Mcue, Nichi, Eagle, Upper and Lower Stoney, Jackson, Schrader, Wigwam Creek and any trib with holding water have tons of stunted brookies. I like to fish a tiny stream for these tiny colorful trout but I'm also in favor of liberal bag limits as they may improve fish size and quality (I wonder if there are enough fishermen to stay ahead of their reproduction though). It would be nice to catch a 20" brook trout from some of these streams rather than a bunch of 6-10 inchers. Jeff
  2. Thanks for the suggestions - I picked up a brace and it seems to help. I just need to force myself to rest it for a while... or maybe try the switch rod.
  3. My casting arm has had it for the season (can't even lift a cup of coffee). Anyone have any tips for casters arm/elbow healing/prevention. Jeff
  4. Was that you I spoke to on my way back to the truck? I use Rio tippet material as well - works great as long as it isn't too old. Jeff

    The Dark Side ;)

Yellowknife - of course. That makes perfect sense.

    The Dark Side ;)

Where the hell was it warm enough to wear a t-shirt?
  7. Don, Posted this last fall. Wrote letters to all applicable parties that basically got nowhere. The clear cut is far worse this year after winter blowdown. http://flyfishcalgary.com/board/index.php?...c=10291&hl= Jeff
  8. How was it?
  9. Watch carefully for very subtle rises. If there's no surface action throw hoppers as close as possible to any cover you see (bring lots - you'll lose them).
  10. I had an expensive engagement ring stolen from my checked luggage at YYC on a trip to Mexico. Strangely enough - I had hidden it in my fly box. Had to propose with a cheap ring bought on the beach. I don't trust anything checked anymore.
  11. Yeah, looked like he'd seen a few battles before. Could have fit my fist in his mouth.
  12. Thanks Jay. My brother actually hooked and lost the big guy first but it was out feeding again right away. After about 100 refusals he let me take a cast at it - the trout ate on my second drift. Amazing how big bugs will get every fish in the river feeding like they've never seen people before. Who needs New Zealand.
  13. My brother was with me and caught his largest brown ever, then topped it twice. Great summer so far.
  14. Another pic
  15. Caught my new personal best brown during the drake hatch this year. Came out of heavy cover for the spinner fall.
  16. A little late but these can be tied down to a size 4. http://flyfishcalgary.com/board/index.php?showtopic=11394
  17. Mustad 34007 size 3/0. You have to sharpen them though - 34007s are pretty much blunt in the larger sizes.
  18. The head is closed cell foam cut to shape, folded in half, and secured with epoxy. Colored with markers and then coated with epoxy. It's similar to a crease fly but based on the "foam head baitfish" pattern.
  19. These will give any rapala a run for it's money.
  20. Another mega double bunny pattern. This one has been great for big bulls in more subtle color schemes.
  21. Tying some perch imitations for pike this spring.
  22. "From the Far Side of the River" is a great read. Really captures the essence of being humiliated by your bonefish guide . He will be missed.
  23. Pandemic. Traffic would have been a breeze had that swine flu panned out the way they said it would
  24. "From the Far Side of the River" by Paul Quarrington. Hilarious - with a local touch. The guy has a great band now to.
  25. Great scud pattern. Is that the eye on the hook or tiny mono eyes?
