  1. Dumb question maybe... I know the river is closed in the NW, but would like to practice my spey casting on a river. I live in the NW close by the river and don't want to drive to FC/above bearspaw to practice if I don't have to. I am sure it is frowned upon but would it be legal to just have no fly on the leader and just casting? I would bring my license but no flies or anything like that, legal or not allowed?

  2. I was out today with my decho 4119 and got into a nice rainbow while nymphing ( nymphing on a spey! lol), it was a beauty fish jumping all over the place and being generally awesome. After I got over the initial shock of hooking one, I was thinking how the heck am I supposed to land this thing? I was fishing on a bank with brush right up behind me and the water dropped off fairly quickly so there was no room to really walk out into the water to grab him. All I could think of was those henrik mortenson DVD's where he just runs up the bank into the bushes and beaches the poor fish, and I didn't want to do that. I also didn't have my net on me at that point... I was trying to reach down and grab the line but the fish/current was to strong and the rod was to flexy to grab it. It has hard when my arm is like 2.5 ft and my rod is 11'9" lol Do you guys have any tips on landing fish by yourself when using the long spey rods? The fish ended up getting off by himself so I didn't have to deal with it this time...

On another note anyone got an amundson 1134 that I might be able to test drive? Decho is pretty slow, would like to try a faster rod.

    Thanks guys!!

  3. my girlfriend was coming to pick me up at the university when the hail storm hit. My car now has a hundred or so dents in it, one of the sideview mirrors had the glass smashed out and a nice big ol' crack in the windsheild. Awesome... Pictures on the weathernetwork.ca showed a funnel cloud at the Children's Hospital at 1:30pm today. yikes!

  4. I am in Germany right now and it is a lot more fun watching soccer when you are in an outdoor beer garden with a thousand screaming Germans haha Giant TV screen and beer always a good combination! I watched a live match of a local club and it was much more interesting live than on TV. Go Deutschland!

  5. I might be going to Germany for a month for school from the beginning of may till the end of June... Will know probably within a week or so... So not sure I can do the fishing league stuff! Keep me in for now though and i'll let you guys know if i have to withdraw.

  6. I am looking for a buddy now who has never spey cast before and is looking to get into it. I saw Pieroway has a spring deal on right now for a 12'6" 6wt plus reel line and backing for $425. Seems like a pretty sweet deal. Has anyone cast these Pieroway Rods at all? I talked to the guys at the expo but didn't cast any of the rods. Any opinions?

  7. that sucks so bad!! Sorry to hear about that, crime like this seems to be getting worse in Calgary... I had my car stolen last year and they took my new oakley polarized sunglasses, I was more choked about the sunglasses than the car! I'm sure it is a long shot but hopefully they catch the guy!

  8. Im excited to get out there and fish, but Calgary area seems very limited before June.

    Welcome to the forum!!!

Calgary is never limited to fishing opportunities, there is always open water somewhere. Are you talking HWY 24 bridge by Carseland? Some goods runs there and in town start at Fish Creek and fish your way up or down from any of the parking lots in the park.

  9. Get a shipping estimate before you commit. I posted my 4119 on Speypages as well and had guys in Lithuania and Ontario interested. Because of the length of the tube, Canada Post wouldn't ship it overseas at all and quoted $30 to Ontario.

I messaged the guy about it, he posted in CAD so hopefully he is shipping form Canada. We'll see how the rod is after I play with it though...

  10. My entry,

I had been looking for a reel for my switch rod for awhile and Christmas was around the corner. I must have mentioned something in passing while talking with my Dad about fishing. Christmas came and I got down to my last present, a small box, but felt way to light to be a reel. Sure enough I opened it and this beauty of a reel was in there!! Best Christmas present ever! :)
