    Rod Weight

Good point, I was fishing my streamer rod for a small rising cuttie last weekend, only rod I had on me, and after being used to chucking streamers all day long, I switch to 5x and I set the hook so hard I snapped the fly off in his jaw, I think if I had 3x that fish would have been flying at me. Although I realized a soft hook set works just fine with a heavier line. I have landed a 20" cuttie on my 0wt TXL-F and had no issues at all, depends on how you play the fish in my mind, I kind of think its a myth, so lets see were this goes here.
  2. these fish are jerks!!!! happens to me all the time.

    Pike

Most of the lakes i fish are easy to walk and wade and wade and usually you can walk around a large part and i have never needed a boat yet, I picked up lots of good knowledge from the guys at fish tales, the rig i use is the rio outbound line with the 12' clear sink and to that is about 4' 30 lb mono then i tie a albright knot to about 18" of 30 lb rio steal leader I find the rio easier to tie than the other brands, I usually fish the north end of the lakes in the later parts of the day because the sun warms up these areas of the lakes faster and usually the wind blows this direction which pushes food sources and warmer water in as well, generally fish between 5' and 15' of water although i have caught them in as little as 2' of water, after that its just figuring out a retrieve that they like and a color of streamer, I have indeed put in a lot of time finding new lakes and just pick one and fish it, you never know, this is the species I fish for when all the rivers are blown and its a blast. Good luck I hope this helps.
  4. I went to fish tales fly shop in search of a good sink line for pike lakes, I was pointed at the Rio outbound short WF8F/I, and I have never touched my sink tips since, a bit pricey as i recall but worth it I use it on lakes and larger rivers with a 8wt or my TCX 5119 switch. and i can cast this line easily in any application.
  5. I have the PAC 1200 pro, and I think the boat is outstanding, if you have the extra cash to spend i would go this route at 13 feet its easy to row on the river, as 420 said go with the larger model, not only can you use it by yourself and easily break it down if need be, i'm lazy and trailer it around, but its nice to have a extra seat and the lean bar with the casting platform, easily mount a trolling motor and lots of storage room at the back for a day trip with two people, i've even packed three on mine for full days on the bow without too many problems, this boat so far has been indestructable i have bounced it off rocks, trees, the bank of the river, drug it on gravel and have not even looked at the patch kit, there is a story a friend of mine told me about a guy in the states dragging the boat after it fell of his trailer for a few km blowing both pontoons and air cells apparently tearing them to shreds, and with the ten year warranty outcast fixed it for only the price of shipping.
  6. I have a outcast pac 1200 pro series. Its a amazing boat for two people and any application. we fish lakes every once and a while and strap a electric to it no prob. but mainly use it for the bow. what i like about it is you can drag the thing down the highway have both the pontoons explode and outcast will replace or repair them for a very resonable fee. very good boats if you have a short attention span like me who tends to bounce the thing off rocks all the time. seems to be indestructable.
  7. The new Korkers are pretty cool. Worth a look.
  8. Interesting. I would like to learn a little more about this as well, I have noticed the problem with the silt also, in a couple of my usuall spots there has been areas that are coverd in almost two feet of silt, which is new to those areas, i did not think anything earlier in the summer but usually these spots are covered on a rock bed, almost got stuck a few times on a wade, sunk knee deep in a second, and i know those waters well, and are simple walk and wade arres this time of year, so if that is from this problem with trans alta any info about the changes it might have on the river would be a excellent to know. CHEERS.
  9. hey Dick how are you doing these days? good to see your still getting out. i now how much you love those ball diamonds. great pics i have to talk to you soon to pick up a few more of the agate guides i have to build a few more this winter. it seems the rods your building are still lucky. they always are. anywho i will grab your number from Clay one of these days. plus i got a few great photos for you as well. this year has been awsome we have seen lots of new water with great success. i think i will be at the shop to bug Wayne on tuesday or thursday of this week. anywho i shall talk to you soon hopefully. tight lines indeed Kent Kutney
  10. Good to hear that they got there so quick. A friend of mine and I called RAP once last year when a fellow drifting by in a P.O.S crappy tire boat and asked how the fishing was. We said not so great pretty slow .Then he decided to show us how his day went and pulled his net out of the water. so to say it was about 24" to 26" DEAD BROWN GOOD. I cant belive that there is still people out there that have no idea about the regulations on the bow. They get them with a licence if they got one at all. Unfortunatlly we never heard back from the wildlife officers but we assumed they were on there way down to mac. So now any of us will ever have a chance to catch and release that brown. The catch and release system is awsome i think we got some great photos of cutties caught a few weeks apart and matched them to be the same fish out of the same hole in the livingstone. Pretty sweet. Anywho thanks for helping the rivers dude. Good on yah.
