  1. HEY! WHO ARE YOU CALLING A HE/SHE!!!...Just kidding,I took the intent of your first reply as an honest comment and question. I did not take any offence to your comments. Not to worry
  2. Unreal!!! Tough little buggers though...that looked like it might have hurt a little.
  3. Excellent, let me know when you want to break it in with some fish slime.
  4. Yes, it was definatly spawned out but in surprisingly good shape. It must have spawned and then moved to this pool that I was at but I normally get Rainbows there, not browns so I was surprised to see it. We are being blessed with some pretty good weather for October. Normally the mornings are much colder but hey...I'll take it. Today it's supposed to get up to 20 degrees.
  5. Okay so, here is what you will need to remember next time that you are out fishing... we won't fish in the fall because the Browns are spawning, we won't fish in the winter cause the Browns are all spawned out, they are weak and the rainbows are saving energy to spawn. we won't fish in the spring because the rainbows are spawning and we won't fish in the summer cause the water is too low and warm and its hard on the fish. (this is truely when mortality is at it's peak and surprise!!! so is the angling pressure)And just for the record I was fishing in a well known Rainbow pool that just so happened to have this Brown holding in it.This Brown was in great shape from the spawn (no marks or scraps on it what so ever and it left my hands after being properly revived very strong) jayjj11, I fish and trust the regulations that are set out by Bioligists and the province. But hey, if you don't want to fish at any of these times of the year then stay off the rivers in Alberta.
  6. Ever had one of those mornings where you can't sleep? Well I did today and decided to take advantage of it. On the river at 4:00AM, temp. plus three. 4:15AM fish on...a 22 inch Brown (actually it taped at 21.5 inches, but I'm calling it 22)made a few more casts and then moved onto another spot but nothin happening. Back home by 5:30AM.
  7. Why doesn't William Joseph show any dealers in Canada? Do they not deal here in Canada? Although I wouldn't mind fishing in Montana, its quite the drive just to pick up a vest.
  8. Here are some pictures of my first fish on my new Redington rod back in September. It was difficult to get used to the different action of the fast action rod but I finally landed a few after loosing the first three. Better late than never; I had to head to Ottawa for the past week, and I didn't get a chance to post these Bull Trout before I left. I first started nymphing and as always for this time of year, the boatman pattern was killer. Afterwards, the Bulls were on fire for anything that resembled Whitefish at the end of the day. So after a long week of not being able to fish, I am hoping to finally get out to the river. Hopefully tomorrow unless something else comes up.
  9. Nice Brown! That is one healthy fish, he's been eating.
  10. LOL, Yup, its me again. Welcome to Calgary Noud. Sorry for driving you nuts with the pics. You should be okay for a bit as I will be working and unable to post anymore big Fish. There will be more though, so be prepared. You should be Fishennnnn before they come so you can get familiar with all the Big ones yourself. The Bow river in Calgary is an excellent place to kill a couple of hours. You guys have fun while your here!
  11. "Looks like allot of Bull" LOL...now that's hilarious! Thanks guys, looks like I caught it just in time too...Damn Rain I guess it's time to tie up some more Bully flies.
  12. I like the Redington Red Fly 2 - 4 piece rod. Nice to cast, take it anywhere and a life time warranty. Match it up with an Amundson TXS reel and you've got an excellent outfit in my opinion.
  13. All this rain was driving me nuts, and I had to get out and try out my rod since I repaired it. I decided to hit the river with streamers and see what was up. The water was dirty and high, and the rod was casting even better with the fix and held up well to the heavy streamer fishing. Then all of a sudden BAM!!! fish on...a big Bull...I thought to myself, okay lets see if the tip will stay together with this big brute. This Bull Trout took me in the fast stuff, under a log and back to the spot where I hooked it before it bolted into more fast stuff. Then I cranked on the drag to give him some pressure and the rod still stayed together. It barely fit in my net (Note to self, time to bring out the long Handle Net for these Bully's), but I finally got him in and snapped a quick photo before giving it a good drink and letting it go. Man I love this time of year!!!
  14. Sorry Noud, I was just trying to prepare you for what is ahead in two weeks, ya that's it I'll try to keep it down... ...I promise
  15. The Browns are definitely on the move. I hit the Highwood this evening for a couple of hours and it didn't disappoint. First there were many little rainbows landed on the October Caddis size 14, and then this Brown came up for the Caddis. After seeing the splash I had to control myself from setting the hook too soon, and then the fight was on... After letting him go I tried some streamer fishing for a while and then this little Bull latched on... The Highwood is my favorite river for having so many different species of trout. It's a great little River this time of year...
  16. Well, maybe not Jenny Craig sizes but does fat and large count? and the biggest from last years collection: It's nice that these are all fish that live anywhere from in Calgary, to within 1.5 hours from the city.
  17. Wow, thats really cheap! But the gas money to get there to buy it for me would be the same cost that I paid from Udo. I too love these nets and you are correct, I also could not justify spending 200 dollars on a net...My wife would shoot me!
  18. When I was in getting my license for 2010 I noticed a bamboo rod on the rod display case. He also has rod building stuff and fly tying materials upstairs. It's a nice shop.
  19. The fly shop at High River (Fly's Etc.) now has these nets in stock. I have one and they work excellent on the Bow River for the Big Brown's. They are on the main street which I think is called Center Street. These nets hold up much better than the cloth mesh and so far I've managed to fit a 23 1/2 inch brown in it with no problems at all. Here's a picture of the net in action: Ask for Udo, and tell him I sent you his way. John
  20. Awesome, keep it going! I haven't bought a fly for years now and I have had success with many of my own creations. Let your brain wonder a bit and giver. There are creations that nobody has thought of yet. Good Luck!!!
  21. Bass Pro did not have the Frabil Rubber net when I was there last year so I just had my local Fly Shop oder one in from the U.S. I thought the Rubber would make it heavy, but it really isn't. Also, I am really impressed with it's durability especially because the mesh does not fall apart like the cloth type. Here's a shot of the net in action:
  22. 27 Inch Bow River Pike caught on a pheasant tail nymph back in March. It was a great evening as I hooked onto and landed numerous Browns and Rainbows in the same hole both before and after I caught this massive Pike and everything was over 20 inches. I left with sore arms and a very big grin!
  23. Biggest Trout of the Year for me while flyfishen in Southern Alberta Mountain Rivers. Although not my all-time record for Bull Trout, this one came close at 30 inches.
  24. Recently I bought this net from Frabill. It's an awesome net that doesn't harm the fish. I had to get my local fly shop to order it in from the States because Bass Pro in Balzac didn't carry it, but Im glad I did, It's a great net. I especially like the way it stretches with the bigger fish. Here's a picture: Frabill® Wooden Trout Net:
