  4. Here are the results from the first Mystery Fly Contest.... To recap the idea - Participants are provided with materials which they must incorporate into a finished fly. Some of each of the materials provided needs to be used. Tiers provide their own thread, epoxy/glue, and one additional material. We're encouraging creativity. Entries are judged independently by David, Terry, and Aaron. They do not know who tied each fly as the flies are tracked by number not name. Here is a picture of all the entries for the first mystery fly contest. All three judges chose "The Squid Bitch" tied by Chris D as the winner of the first round of the contest. Chris takes home a $50 Fish Tales Gift Certificate for his effort. We'll be posting step by step tying instructions for the Squid Bitch on our Feature Fly page.   12. The finished fly needs to be dropped off at the shop - we've had one submission completed in-store which you're welcome to do. There are 11 envelopes remaining for the initial mystery fly contest. Anyone that's interested in participating should swing by to pick up their materials.   14. FISH TALES MYSTERY FLY CONTEST We've put together 24 materials packages which we'll provide to tiers. Materials can be picked up at the shop (first come first served.) Tiers will have until next Sunday (December 13) at 4 p.m. to finish their creation and return it to the shop. There is no cost to participate. Flies will be judged by Fish Tales staffers.   19. Sunday, November 8 marks the start of our new series of Sunday afternoon gatherings. Join us this Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. for an "Introduction to Amundson" with company representative, Jack Simpson. Jack will be able to answer questions about Amundson products. You'll also get to check out the full line of Amundson products now available in-store. Demo rods will be available to try out. This should be a fun and informative afternoon. Next week's seminar: The ins-and-outs of rod building with Wayne Posyluzny. Let Wayne take you through what you need to know to customize and put together your next rod. Dyna-King Vises We are now stocking a selection of Dyna-King Vises including the Barracuda, the Indexer, and the Squire as well as a few of their high quality tying tools and accessories. Next week we are expecting a Sage shipment that should include the new Sage 99 series as well as some new Sage accessories. We already have a selection of the new Xi3's and Vantage rods in-store.   20. A couple of spots have recently become available in our Introductory Spey course this weekend (June 6/7). Join Federation of Fly Fishers certified master fly caster Chris Seipio for this two-day spey casting clinic on the Bow River. You’ll receive an introduction to all three styles of spey casting: greased line, Scandinavian, and Skagit. Learn single spey, double spey, circle C and snake roll casts using both hands up. Techniques learned can be used with single hand and double hand rods. The spey class is limited to six participants which means plenty of one on one time with the instructor. You’ll be amazed at how much you learn. Course cost is $295.00 plus GST. Maximum of six students. Course runs from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Call the shop at 403-640-1273 if you're interested.
  21. Please join us at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 19 for the final "seminar" of this season. Seminar Topic: "Spey-O-Rama" Join Elliott and Chris on-river for this session where you'll be able to test out some of Fish Tales demo spey equipment. If you've never cast a spey rod before you can try one out. If you already own one (or more!!) you can test your own with different lines. We will have the Airflo Skagit & Scandi Compact Kits available. This event is simply an opportunity to explore spey equipment/techniques on-river. Meet at Burnsmeade parking area in Fish Creek.
