  1. Oh boy. Even the stuff you provided (if the other thread) does not answer the questions about ANS being transmitted ONLY by felt. I'm with Jayhad - the only way to stop the spread of ANS is to ban anglers from wading. If the regs go through it will be just like the regs we put in down here in EK - SIGs using environmental protection to profit.
  2. I expect that there will be a motor ban on the bow river within 4 years. Just a hunch.
  3. At this point, there are still three Sutter brothers left on the team - Duane is in Hockey ops. I think Ron left. In any event, the damage is done and it will take years (5 at least) for the flames to rebuild. They have two choices. Stay with the Sutters and try to free agent a team to the playoffs, or make a move now to get some top prospect or draft pick. The problem is though, the only way they can get a number 1 pick is to trade Iggy or Kipper and the only teams that would trade will finish high this year (so the picks are not as valuable). They had a guy last year that they easily could have gotten a top pick for - but pissed that away. Love him or hate him - Dion was worth way more than they got. Of all the teams in the league, Calgary probably has the least promising youth. Backland, Really? Thats the best hope the Flames have? Who did the Flames pick in the first round this year? Answer - Nobody. They traded that pick away for Ollie. Who did they pick in the second round? Answer Nobody. They traded that pick away too. To be fair, the Flames demise in drafting didn't start with Sutter. 2000 - 9th overall, Goalie Brent Krahn. Never played an NHL game for them. 2001 - 14th overall - Chuck Kobasew. Traded away (for Stuart I think it was). 2002 - 10th overall, Eric Nystrom - Good solid 4th liner - but not what you expect for 10th overall. 2003 - 9th overall. Dion Phaneuf - Their best pick in the past decade for the Flames. Traded to Toronto for ?. 2004 - 24th overall Chris Chucko - Never played a game for them (and never will). 2005 - 26th overall. Matt Pelech. Has not made the team. 2006 - 26th Overall - Leland Irving - Not good enough to play back-up. 2007 - 24th Overall - Michael Backland. The only 1st rounder they have that plays a regualr shift. 2008 - 25th overall - Greg Nemisz. Likley won't make the NHL. 2009 - 23rd overall Tim Erixon. He acyually might be useful. 2010 - No pick. 2011 - Things are looking up for a high pick. The interesting thing here is that they picked 24th, 26th, 26th, 24th, 25th, and 23rd overall - some because they traded away higher picks, some because they were unlucky in the lottery. Some teams like Detroit, who picked Lidstrom 53rd, Zetterberg 210th, and Datsyuk (171st) can get away with it. The Flames could not. I really don't think firing the coach and GM is going to do much to help the team in the near term, but unless it happens soon - the Flames will be the New York Islanders of the west for the next 10 years.
  4. Date: Sat. Jul. 17 2004 8:53 AM ET Terms like "war zone" were being thrown around as Calgary cleaned up from its severe weather battering from Thursday night. Cleanup efforts are underway in Calgary after a massive thunderstorm pelted the city with golfball-sized hail and heavy rain. The worst-hit areas were in southwest Calgary, specifically the new neighborhoods of Springbank Hill and Braeside. Small excavators were busy moving mud on Friday. Street sweepers were also busy.
  5. i agree. people out to have a good time annoy me also. BTW nice avatar.
  6. "my husband had a work truck, a project truck, his personal truck and my truck" Do you really believe that the city and developer planners should plan for 2 trucks per person? You seem to blame many different people for the situation, but perhaps you could work on getting it down to 1 vehicle per person?
  7. I have only been a member on this board a few weeks but here is what I notice. There is thug mentality against anyone who has an opinion that is different from the view of a core group on here and reading this thread it is clear who they are. This could have to do with the way that orvis presented his first statement. He could have been less blunt. But he did not ever threaten physical abuse like some of the replies did. I also did not read any of his posts where he suggested anything about dry vs wet or any other things other than you should use one fly. Many people do believe that fly fishing should be done with one fly but maybe not as many in Alberta. If you have been around the sport for awhile you will know there has been debate on this issue and many others. to the fellow that talked about the book in england in the 1930s I think that probably wasnt a view shared by all or even most of the fly fishermen of the day. I use one fly. But I think that anyone that uses more than one is still a real fly fisherpeople and i respect peoples opinions as long as they don't get abusive or mean spiritied. I don't much imagine i would have much in common with orvisonly and i don't think i would want to fish with him but i might choose him over some others on here. We all form opinions and sterotypes. For instance I read one persons posts on here and I think he must be an american. But assuming things and mocking someone about it as a group is what bullies do and that is what I seen on here. i don't expect i'll read or post much on here after this. If you come to BC make sure you only use one fly. And not that is makes any difference but after my earlier question I looked up the rules for the world flyfishing championship and it is one wet or dry fly at a time and no strike indicators.
  8. Does anyone know what the international federation rules are? They would be a good source to settle the discussion of what is and what is not considered 'real' fly fishing.
  9. In BC the regs are that you can only use one artificial fly - no droppers. I believe this is a good regulation.
  10. I voted no. I do not agree with the way this was done. The fact is that most people that live in the area are not huge fans of Calgary people or Vancouver people. It is a city folk thing more than anything.I have friends from this area who live on the alberta side of the border and they are the ones I think it is most unfair to. I do feel bad because I can fish with them in the crowsnest river anytime but they have to go through a hassle to fish in the elk river or wigwam. We still fish both but more often I go there. I have met jerks from alberta, jerks from vancouver and jerks from all around here. Also met lots of people I like from those places to. Well noone from Vancouver yet but I'm sure they have some good people there too. I think dune has it most right highlander - he has more of a stake in this area and our rivers than most of the population of your neck of the woods. Growing up around here there has always been issues between locals and outsiders from alberta, bc or the united states. But I think that most around here believe that the way this was done was pretty sneaky. Some chuckle and don't feel too bad for the rich guys from calgary that got really upset, but I believ in what comes around goes around. I do think that there are some in this area that have benefitted from the change and there are some that have been hurt by it. I don;t think it has made a big difference either way but I do think that the changes were not really needed and has definitly resulted in a worse relationship between the two neighbors.
