That first fish is massive! Well done!

I would be happy to take someone along for a trip as quite often i go alone. Anybody willing to trade up a couple good spots on the crow. Maybe we could fish half a day on the river and the other half on the lake.

Its been a busy summer with work with very little time to do any serious fishing, but i finally broke away and made it to one of my favorite lakes down south. I was on the water and fishing by 10:00. The weather was warm with a slight breeze. As i was rigging up my rod, i noticed this tiny frog trying to climb onto my pontoon boat. I grabbed the camera, snapped a pic, and let him go in the lake. I was watching him swim away thinking, i wonder if the trout eat these little guys, and whamo! a big rainbow came up a smoked him 15 ft away from the pontoon boat. Scared the crap out of me but still one of the coolest takes i have ever seen. As i fished through the day i noticed at least a 100 of these frogs on the lake and the fish were onto them. I tried throwing some big backswimers to try and imitate them, but i had no luck. Anybody on the board ever seen anything like this before? I had a great day fishing besides the fact i had no floating frog patterns. I landed 15 fish losing at least 10 as well. Biggest fish of the day was a 22 inch rainbow, but i lost a couple that were bigger. I also managed to hit the trifecta for this lake for the first time. A rainbow, cuttie, and a brookie.

Nice pics! It was only a matter of time. What do you think you were doing wrong before?

Well I finally made it back to the beautiful elk valley for annual float down the river. Five of us were floating this time around Garth, big Mac, wild Bill, Tom and myself. We floated the line creek to sparwood section. We were on the water by 8:00 and it was a little chilly out. Not much action until about 10:30 when the sun finally started to heat things up a little. Fish were starting to rise. A hatch of mayflies were on the water and I noticed a few nice fish taking everyone that came there way. I quickly tied on my best imitation and tossed a nice cast. Right on cue the cutty slammed it and put up a good fight. I caught 8 fish in total from this hole with the largest being this guy. After an hour the hatch was over so I switched back to my Chernobyl ant and the fish were hitting it hard. It seemed like every hole would produce 3-4 fish. I ended up with 22 fish to the net the largest being 21 inches. The fishing was so good I might have to make another trip out. wild Bill and big Mac on lunch break

That is completely insane. I have to agree with bloom, should of put him on a backboard. -
I personally thought it was OK. Where do you find a dog with no legs? Same place you left him.

HOLY CRAP!! Thats my worst nightmare come true. How far away from you was he before he charged? And if you had bear spray do you think you would have had time to use it? -
The only one I can think of is natures hideaway east of Okatokes.

Ya your right maximum, it is a doggie backpack. Hes to old to carry anything anymore, so what I do is put 2 empty 1 liter bottles in there and it works like a life jacket as well. It also gives me something to grab onto when crossing the river, just to keep him from getting swept downstream. As a side bonus, any pieces of paper or fishing line I see on the river I pick up and put in the pockets. Hes a lab cross, and to be honest Lynn, I don't do anything special. I run him once a day, take him fishing when I can, and feed him better quality pet foods. For some reason the old bugger just doesn't want to quit.

Anyone Know Where I Go To Fish In Castlegar??
thefisherking replied to birchy's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
I used to have a friend that lived in castlegar. 3 years ago, I stayed for a week. We hired a guide one day and floated the 3 times ourselves in pontoon boats. We fished for walleye during the day and the rainbows in the evening. They have a caddis hatch just like the bow. The guide took us to a place about 10 to 15 minutes downstream of castlegar. I think the locals call it the sand bar. I believe you can park at the top of the hill and walk down the path. Lots of big fish rising in the current taking caddis. That was my first year fly fishing and i didn't do to well on the fly rod, but caught a few 5 or 6 pounders on the spin cast. I hope that helps. Good luck. -
I never knew that you could tell if a fish was stressed out by the eyes. Good thing to know. I'm gonna have to start looking when I land the fish. Thanks MTB.

Does The "system" Work?
thefisherking replied to esleech's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
Man I hate hearing stuff like that. I can't believe you had to read him the regs over the phone. Stories like this make you think the system is failing. Just my opinion though. I'd like to see the CO's doing more patrols on the river. I haven't been checked for my license this year nor did I get checked all of last year. Tough to catch the guys if your not out there looking for them. -
After I couldn't grab it with the forceps I did consider cutting it, but just enough to grab onto the sliver. But you know how you head out on your first trip of the year and you always seem to for get something, I forgot my first aid kit. I didn't even have a band aid and the only sterilization I had was the box of rickards in the fridge. Since it was my casting hand, I wouldn't have been able to fish anyway. I'm considering going lefty for the next couple of weeks so i don't get go mental for lack of fishing. And who knows might be handy to be able to fish with both hands. Hey esleech I'll show you mine if you show me one of yours. And Jones your always welcome anytime.
