  1. That was much nicer then the way I would of put it.... but ya get it together flyfishy
  2. I wasn't on the water much last winter but this season to me it does seem there is more anchor ice, but I've only really been fishing south of the city this winter.
  3. Wow Harps a SE green model at that, I've been trying to find one of those for a while now. The 4500 series is a great reel I've never had line come into the spool because of wind. nor have I seen it happen, I think it's a none issue. As for the geardrive drag, it's a great system the drag can apply more pressure due the 3:1 ratio, the gears are self cleaning and whn i first purchased mine I was concerned with sand getting into the gear, but after trying and never getting it stuck I am pretty happy. The drag of all current Sage drag reels is a SCS drag, Sealed Carbon System and it is fresh or saltwater capable. If you want a great drag for a reasonable price why not look at the Sage 4200 in the 9-10 wt.
  4. Hey does any ony know where you can get a pawl for a Daiwa 734. This is not the Lochmar 708, but the model previous that is similar to a Martin Classic. Thank you
  5. I've been out with a few buddies that have had frozen Boas.... I've seen three methods of melting: 1) hot coffee on feet 2) Peeing on feet 3) whining in the car until the heater thaws the feet. If you are looking for a good boot for winter Chota SLTs with cleats.... they have a slip on/off feature but the boot still stays tight for any amount of hiking.
  6. I had the pleasure of meeting a Japanese vacationer a few years back on one of our lakes, he was fly fishing but after he landed a few fish, he broke out his Tenkara stick and started dabbing dries. His patience, balance and focus was incredible to witness. They sell Tenkara at wholesale and I know a couple of guys that play with the sticks, I've thought of trying it this year myself supposedly awesome on small creeks and a good change for whiteys Is it me or is that Japanesse dude wearing a dry suit ??
  7. If you want a boat to last a life time with minimal maintenance aluminum is the way to go. Aluminum is your friend on new waters where you not see those big rocks until it's to late, glass is much easier to handle on the water, but with the extra weight the aluminums track great in the wind..... it's realy 6 of one half dozen of another. Both glass and aluminum have serious positives and serious negatives, it really depends on what waters you are going to fish.
  8. not to hijack, but that publication is no longer in the business of printing mags...... insert tears here. http://www.canflyfish.com/
  9. WFN man if you have it demand it from your cable provider..... but I am sure the big 3 carry brodcast it
  10. Gil, that's a super nice tie.. bravo
  11. I'm not surprised the Grands feel sluggish to me, they are more of a beginners line in my opinion. Try comparing the Gold to the GPX for a more accurate comparison. Peter which GPX are you using? Mastery, Mastery Textured or Sharkskin?
  12. I would think if you go into the shop with the intention of purchasing the line if it works then they would let you. Most shops don't have a demo of every line in every weight.... either that or take your stick to the show and come and see me and try a real line ... sorry I meant a Rio line
  13. I'd like to see that too....... if not in person a pic with a tape would suffice
  14. yes I can, but no you can't have any....... the americans pay better
  15. I can't agree more, I have people all the time trying to haggle, and you're right we're not in Tijiuana...... you don't haggle when you are in walmart or superstore so why is it ok in a small retail location that get killed on margins
  16. your title should be Polar Bears are so Cool and thier hides make kick ass fly patterns. you don't need to spend tonnes of cash to see them, head to Baffin Island (relatively cheap flight) take a 3 minute drive to the dump at the west side of town in Iqaluet and there you go Polar Bears in their glory
  17. Fishpro match a good line with the predator 8wt and you'll be set . I use the Rio Clouser and it will chuck pretty much any fly, I have some 10" double bunnies for pikers that weight 1/4 oz and I can easily cast those far enough 60-70'. I've never landed a pike over 4' yet but I am sure the 8 would hold them. Pikers run... but never really far
  18. Fishpro... I own and have fished the predator series rods for 2 seasons now and the 10wt is a club, the 8wt is more then sufficent for any pike or bully for that matter. If you want a longer rod than the 8wt the 9 would suffice but the 10 is a pretty heavy stick. Now for your question at hand, I use the 3800 series and I don't think it would be the ideal reel, they are gorgeous and work everyway you want them to but the 3800 series is delicate..... Redington Rise reels are awesome for pike and balance perfectly on the Predator, the rises have a rock solid drag and they take a beating, they will still work when you drop your reel in the boat. A few of my buddies use the rise as well for pike
  19. can i have a dozen in orange.... I'm leaving tomorrow at 7am, thank you
  20. I'm replacing my TXL 2710 with a TXL-F 2710 I like to stay on the forefront of the Sage product lines so I will unload a rod that has been barely used.
  21. what are you expecting, 1000s of city employees with blow drivers

    Boots...

Felt...... well I'll stop wearing felt when they can figure out how to get the microbes out of my flys, backing, neoprene booties, laces, boot material, bears, deer, moose..... the list goes on. I've used both a lot and I am back to felt with cleats, do what makes you feel the most comfortable and safe
