Been watchin preseason games and so far so good. The win last night was great, The team looks solid and cant wait for the cup to come home...Go Flames Go
Yep they've been so good in a few games of exhibition hockey (other than that absolute beat-down from the Canucks), you might as well start planning the parade route already!

GO HABS GO!!!!!! Only preseason, but beating Detroit twice in a week is nice. The Wings are in a class of their own, but, I think Montreal can win the East IF Price bounces back from his playoff follies and plays well. He is very young. If anyone saw the game the other night it could be described as SPEED SPEED AND MORE SPEED.
Love to see a Habs Flames final........... I can dream....
I watched some of that Habs/Wings game on TSN...unbelievable how loud those fans are for a pre-season game. And the speed/intensity was awesome, that game made the flames/Oilers look like minor league teams. That one save Price made was ridiculous! I think they will be a very strong team this year, hopefully Price will be able to handle the pressures of playoff hockey better than he did in the Philly series last year...

When I was younger, we used to park at the local landfill (dump) in the late evenings and sit quietly in the truck with the engine and lights off. Then, shortly after dark, we'd turn the highbeams on too see if any bears had shown up to dig in the trash. Then, (while trying not to spill your beer), we'd jump out and put the rocks to em'...man that used to be fun...
F'in black bears...
That's the most rednecked form of entertainment I've ever heard of. Kind of ironic coming from a guy who talks about trout poachers like they are the scum of the earth, no?
What's your beef with black bears?

Luckily my favourite river is the Elbow and the most prime stretch happens to be a 5 minute bike ride away.

Sweet avatar snakeman!
Thanks dude
That was a sweet goal

Good lord mang that is a beast

So ya'll quit fishin' and leave the valley when ya spot a bear???? Cool, never thought of that....
I pack it in if I see fresh scat. I'd say it's smart to err on the side of caution when you're near carnivorous animals that can weigh upwards of 500 pounds, but that's just me...

what timing I met my Grizzly buddy that I see every year on the Castle just yesterday.
Just as I found a nice run too he crossed the river about 200 yards in front of me. so ended my day on the Castle - figured he was ther first so i let him keep the run
That's intense, was it a big one?

Stellar shots!

"The presence of fish is a great distraction to practicing your casting"
Haha, too true!
There are some other cool vid's there, thanks for the link toolman

HOLY ****
Ridiculous fish man
I'll give you 50 bucks to tell me where that is

I'd be interested, I've always wanted to fish the north. Are there other species to target there, like grayling or dollies?

My first decent rod was a 5 weight Sage "LE" (probably stands for low-end). It casts like a wet noodle, pretty slow action that can be felt through the length of the rod, which made it great for learning to cast. Despite it's medium/slow action it has some serious backbone, and can handle tossing heavy streamers, big worm n bobber rigs, and it's never had a problem handling 16"+ fish. Also, the thing is a tank, I've put it through some serious abuse and it has held up beautifully with only a few scratches. I 'upgraded' to one of the new TFO Lefty Kreh models (the 4-pieces that run at around $160), and while this rod is stiffer and has significantly faster action, it is noticeably weaker when it comes to fighting fish, and has trouble handling weighted streamers and even hopper/droppers. I think it's the quality of graphite that makes such a big difference between the two rods. I also had a guide break off my 8-weight TFO for no apparent reason, after only 1 season of use. TFO's cast nicely but that's about it - you definitely get what you pay for with fly rods.

Thanks everyone.
I took one home from the Elbow the other day, it was my first time filleting a fish and it worked out surprisingly well. I just fried it up with garlic butter and a splash of lime juice, and it was honestly some of the best fish I've ever had. I have a new-found appreciation for rockies
Next time I'll try some of the tips here.

For me it was an 18 inch brown in a small side channel on the upper Elbow. I stalked it for nearly 2 weeks, watching it's feeding patterns and throwing all I had at him until I finally got him on a prince. The fight was spectacular, he was dancing on the surface like a salmon, the thing had huge shoulders. Not the biggest fish I've caught but definitely one of the most memorable and satisfying.

Nice sweater FNG!

Does anyone here have any good recipes for cooking rockies? I don't have access to a smoker so they've gotta be baked or pan fried. Are they hard to fillet?
-
I've been fishing so much lately that I've become immune to that feeling
-
I've heard that there can be some big browns around the mouth in the fall
-
That is too cool

The flames just get slower and dumber with this move.

Great pictures beedhead and TerryH, thanks for posting. I'm currently stuck in Ontario and these pics have got me wanting a flight back to Alberta, asap.

Insane goaltending from both sides last night, loved seeing Nolan get flat-out robbed there. This will probably be a 6 or 7 game series, lots of good physical hockey. Hopefully the Sharks come out victorious. It doesn't really matter who wins the West though, nobody is stopping the mighty Habs this year

The last three I listened to today were the Best of Traffic, John Coltrane's 'Soultrane', and Buddy Guy's 'A Man and the Blues'
