It's all about discretion. When it comes to a river like the Bow I have no problem telling new anglers about spots like Calf Robe, lots of people already fish there anyway and it might serve to reduce pressure on the poo-hole, 22x, etc. Or streams like the Crow that can be tricky to access but don't really have 'secret' access points. But there are streams that just shouldn't be discussed on a forum. I recall one thread last summer where a poster inquired about a certain small Elbow trib and got a reply with far too much detail. This is a stream with one or two fish per hole and simply can't handle the pressure that discussion on FFC brought it. The number of anglers on that stream increased and it was harder to find fish after the post, and since it has a 2 trout limit I have to think that some friend of a friend who likes to eat trout probably found out about it and killed a few that we couldn't afford to lose. It's nice to help people, but a lot of the smaller streams aren't discussed here for a reason. If someone wants to know about a creek let them get out and spend the time and gas money to explore it instead of finding all they need to know after a few minutes in front of a computer screen. If they end up finding your spot then so be it, they earned it, but without the dangers that come with public discussion.

I flew in from London yesterday and couldn't think of a better way to work off the jet-lag than to spend some time on my favourite stream. She's high and muddy but with a little leg work there are fishable spots to be found. It was a nice walk to the river, with wildflowers in abundance
I came across this adult wood frog in the woods. It's always a pleasure to find these guys, I don't see them often enough here.
Covering water with a black bugger, I stung a nice brown in a side channel but missed the hookset as I was distracted by a pair of hawks circling above me. Moving on to another channel I got a chase from something big on a slow strip. A couple casts later I hooked up, and after 2 minutes of headshakes and tail-walking (a habit of most of the bigger browns on this river), I had my first Elbow trout of 09
With that I was satisfied and called it a day. Certainly not a bad way to start the year!

He's had 11 first-round wins in 16 seasons. A little trivia for Lames fans here: how many times have the Flames advanced past the first round since 1989? ONCE. City of memories? How many times have the Flames made it to the SCF post-lockout? Zero. And the Oilers? Once. That's right.
And then there's Renney, who has won a Memorial Cup, Olympic Silver, 3 World Championship Gold, and a Jack Adams finalist.
The Katz era has begun, and slowly but surely the Oilers are becoming a respectable franchise again.

I like this move, but I'm with FNG, I'm gonna wait for the on-ice product before I get too excited.
Smitty, did you catch any of Jagr in the recent world championship? The guy can still play at a very high level, he would lead the Oilers in scoring next year (assuming they can't bring in anyone better). He was only a couple points behind the Art Ross 3 seasons ago playing for Renney on a pretty weak Rangers team. I'd be all for the Oilers bringing him in for 1 or 2 seasons, if they could do it for $4-6 mil. That would be a better move than bringing in Lecavalier and his contract or a playoff choker like Thornton. Having one of the greatest players of the last couple decades to mentor the kids can't hurt.
As for Horcoff, he's definitely a great 2nd line center, but his contract is a joke. Thank god Lowe does not run the show any more!

But if I don't feel like listening to radio it can be anything from Miles Davis to Mississippi Fred McDowell, Tragically Hip to Toots and the Maytals. It all depends on the mood of the day. Hard to beat Neil Young and the Band when you're cruising a Canadian highway though.

Awesome humblefisherman! I've made over a grand at that spot over the years, it seems like a magnet for poaching d-bags. I think they need to put up some signs there outlining the regs so that non-fishing dog walkers can start making RAP calls too. I once asked a CO about this but he wasn't very helpful - I wonder what it would take to make this happen?

Fly fishing in the Amazon - I've never heard of people doing this, but it looks like an amazing place to bring a fly rod. 3000+ different species of fish, and most have probably never seen a fly.

I hope they lose tonight. They aren't capable of being consistently good, so they might as well consistently suck and get MacT fired, or a get top 5 draft pick (It will probably be the latter since they've been mediocre for 8 years and MacTavish still has his job)

It's been rough at times this season, but there's still lots to be optimistic about. They're tied with Detroit for most wins on the road, Horcoff is getting back to form, Penner has been a legit power forward since being called out, Gilbert has his game back, etc. I remember when it seemed all the Oilers needed was an offensive defenseman - now they have 3 players in the top 30 for d-man points. It's also great to have legitimate star players again - Souray is a norris candidate if he keeps his level of play up, and Hemmer has finally reached the level I've always known he could reach (tied for 14th in points, 5th among all RW'ers, tied for 8th in PP points, 2nd behind Crosby in road points).
Some players still need to pick up their game - Cole, Gagner, and Garon in particular. But it looks like the team might have broken out of their slump, and at 5 points behind 1st in the division (with a game in hand), and a long home stretch coming up, things don't look too bad.

I actually haven't seen any out here west of the city yet, but I don't bother hitting the water on weekends. Speaking of hatches, lots of golden stones, lime sallys, PMD's and caddis around - should be another good year for dry fly action. Thanks for the comments guys. time to go fishing...
