thanks wolfie but i honestly need something in writing that specifically says handling a fish by the gills will kill it. or maybe someone has a first hand experience? c'mon people many fishes lives are at stake!
-
could someone please tell me the damage that occurs when a large fish is picked up out of the water with one hand by the gill? i have a friend who doesn't believe me that he's probably killing the fish. something from a biologist or something comparable that i could forward to him may help.
thanks

my buddy sent me this picture he took at the north ram on the weekend. he said it was the first pool east of the trunk road. i was just there and didn't see ANY trucks in the river...saw a few quads though anyone else witness this? or better yet, anyone know how it happened? wonder how much trouble it was to get it out since there isn't any road access to that particular spot.

What a great topic for my story........3 years back i went fishing on the Elbow, but I'm sure not to the part where any of you guys go...it was in town..started at the bridge at 25 st and just south of Macleod trail, north of 4th ave...anyway...I got as far as the next bridge, the walk over one in Lindsay Park...something "purple" caught my right eye under a low growing bush. Went over and found a purse! The first thought that came to my mind was..damn I don't have any rubber gloves..for this park was the home of many transits, and crackers, and only God knows who's purse this belong to. Lucky for me there was an empty plastic bag about 10' in front of it...I opened it up just by dumping the contents on the ground..Holy crap...I hit a jackpot!!
There on the ground was a 3/4 full bottle of Vodka, a book of bus tickets with only one gone, a hairbrush, 4 condoms in their package, a small plastic bag of "crack", a pipe that was used, and 3-$20 dollar bills, 1 $10 bill, and enough change on the ground to make up just over another $10 bucks...BUT NO ID...after gathering up the $$$$, and the bottle, bus tickets, crushing the crack in the little bag and dumping the power onto the ground, I left the condoms..and got out of that spot, only to meet up with a native passed the bridge where I was and gave him the 3/4 full bottle of Vodka, he thanked me and off he went back to the river's edge.
It was back to fishing for me after that and boy the 4 fish I got was the icing on the cake!...........................Wolfie
shoulda tried the crack, some people really like it...

Voted 1. Purely for reciprocity.
Very few BC anglers fish in Alberta anyway, but for the Sparwood/Fernie/Kimberly crew that rammed in the Class II regs - it would make me feel better that the Crow was going to be a much of a hassle for them to fish as they've made the Elk and St Marys for me.
haha-eye for an eye-that's always the answer. problem solved.

i just returned from a classified river in bc and saw 7 cars parked at various points...6 were albertan. there's no way you see that kind of ratio of bc plates on alberta rivers, do you? a classified water system in alberta wouldn't bring in the same kind of money as it does in bc...unless you ding the americans real good for fishing the bow. i voted #1.

i was checking out a stream on google earth today looking for access points and corners and what-not and noticed gps co-ordinates. does anyone on the board use a handheld gps device to find certain sections of rivers? is this worthwhile? any preference on model/make?

I thought maybe you were trying to take the water temperature rectally........
i just lost my appetite...

i have a friend who has some property with a lake on it but it has no fish in it. he looked into getting it stocked but the province would charge him ALOT of money to do it. i suggested he do it himself. i heard a story of some guy dumping a bucket of perch into celestine lake in jasper many years ago and it's teeming with fish. is it just that easy? how long would a bucket full of perch live during transport? is this even legal? (obviously the jasper situation wasn't). thoughts?

i have a garmin but it couldn't find lakes or dirt roads. works good for finding my way around calgary.

sorry guys. what i failed to mention in my original post was that this rec site (in bc) is free to stay at. that's what makes me mad. if all those guys paid for their spot it would be a different story. now i guess the rule is you can stay for 14 consecutive days but if i had dropped off my trailer on april 30th to ensure i had my spot on may 13th and others couldn't camp because of that, well that would make me a jerk. i guess that's my point. just because it's not illegal doesn't make it okay. i could run my chainsaw from 7:01 am until 10:59 pm and although i wouldn't be breaking the law, my neighbor would probably think i'm a jerk. and rightfully so.
-
anyone encounter any jerks this weekend?
i worked this weekend but took wednesday thursday off instead. when i arrived at the rec site i was going to camp at, it was FULL. i've never seen it full before. it was full but there was not a soul around. people had driven their trailers there and dropped them off so they would have a spot friday night. jerks. i turned around and went home.
-
anyone find it? i dont want it back, just curious.

that first one is the nicest fishing photo i've seen in a long time, well done.

I've done it on the bow at 3am

lost one clear eight compatment fly box on the crowsnest river near the leitch colleries on sunday. contains all my nymphs and chronimids. if found keep it but be warned: they dont catch fish.
-
in bc if a stream is designated "fly fish only" it means no indicators or split shot, no choice but to learn.
