  1. Can't wait to see guys walking around with that thing hooked on belt...lol

With the limited knowledge I have on the product I can't see it replacing the Iphone. Might be a good alternative to those mini low power lap tops.

i'm gonna wear mine around my neck like flavor flav yo

  2. some of you guys must be really old...

    crappy tire special

    martin 9' 7wt

    sage 9' 6wt

7.5' 4wt built by ray (creekside)

    greywolf 9' 5wt

    tfo 9' 5wt

the sage is STILL my main rod after 10 years but i'm finally going to buy something new. a 4wt but what kind? any suggestions? $500 range.

  3. It's called the worthless lands hypothesis.....why do you think the parks are where they are....and why was the Spray Lakes "un-parked" when they became the interest of hydroelectric projects, or something along that line. I am not exactly certain of the time frame.

Smitty, I think some of the contradiction you see in my posts is really how uncertain I am about the issue. Like I said, the species composition issue is really a sidebar to the discussion.

But to that end, my point is that parks are mandated to manitain ecological integrity, but the very formation of parks often had a direct negative impact on the ecological integrity (usually aquatic integrity) of the sites through the angling pressure and angler demand.

Additionally, in light of what parks are supposed to be, should we allow those pressures (which created the problem in the first place) to continue to impact the integrity of parks, and further, why should we allow an (arguably) cruel blood sport to impact fish in places which are supposed to be inherently "wild" and "pristine."

Shouldn't we allow some places to act as (here it comes) refugia? Why should caribou, sheep, grizzlies and elk be given so much more ethical consideration?

Comparing non-park to park is not an option to me, as they are two completely separate entities. Nearly all the fisheries in Alberta proper have been tampered with at one point or another. Some for the good, some for the bad. Non native fisheries stocking is something that's extremly location-sensitive. Do I love fishing for browns in East Dollar? Man, do I ever!!! Do I like catching brookies on the Pembina instead of grayling? Not so much...

caribou, sheep, grizzlies and elk have to dodge cars, fish don't

  4. A guy is driving around the back woods of Montana and he sees a sign in front of a broken down shanty-style house: 'Talking Dog For Sale ' He rings the bell and the owner appears and tells him the dog is in the backyard.

The guy goes into the backyard and sees a nice looking Labrador retriever sitting there.

    'You talk?' he asks.

    'Yep,' the Lab replies.

After the guy recovers from the shock of hearing a dog talk, he says 'So, what's your story?'

The Lab looks up and says, 'Well, I discovered that I could talk when I was pretty young. I wanted to help the government, so I told the CIA. In no time at all they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders, because no one figured a dog would be eavesdropping.'

'I was one of their most valuable spies for eight years running. But the jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I wasn't getting any younger so I decided to settle down. I signed up for a job at the airport to do some undercover security, wandering near suspicious characters and listening in. I uncovered some incredible dealings and was awarded a batch of medals.'

'I got married, had a mess of puppies, and now I'm just retired.'

The guy is amazed. He goes back in and asks the owner what he wants for the dog.

    'Ten dollars,' the guy says.

'Ten dollars? This dog is amazing! Why on earth are you selling him so cheap?'

'Because he's a liar. He never did any of that *hit.

  5. speaking of calculators, i bought one for 88 cents once. lasted about a week (i used it every day) before the 0 button stopped working. whipping out my NEW calculator ($2.89 and going strong) it cost 12.57 cents per day then i chucked it out. i'd say it was worth it but now it's sitting in a landfill...next to a diaper (not mine). $1 flies are harmless.

  6. Folks,

The fair trade discussion had several references to overpaid or underpaid tiers.

Did a tad of looking @ CDN wages for 2009 and found this table expressed in $/hour

    Males $23.84

    Females $20.18

    All Employees $23.59

    Basic assumptions are:

1} wages are typically 60% of a operations total budget.

    2] the tier does 20 flies/hour

3] markup @ the retail level is 50%

    Wage - $ 23.59

Total cost of operation - $ 39.317/hour - this includes materials, work area, employee cost, light, heat et al.

    Flies produced / hour = 20

    Cost/fly = $ 1.957

    Cost @ retail level $2.949

And you guys want 'em for a buck - get real. Some 50 years ago when I started to tie flies, a single Joe's Hopper or Gray Bivisible was $0.25. My Dad made $1.25/hour. My weekly allowance was $0.25. You got 5 flies/hour worked. Now the average is $23.59/hour. Hell, you you guys should be paying $23.59/5 flies = $ 4.72/fly.

    Quit sniveling!

    Don

i buy my flies from a shop in bc for, you guessed it, one dollar a fly. they are good flies and the proprietor is happy to have my business. should i feel shame? - get real. should i make sure the guy/gal who tied my fly is making $23.59/hour even though I dont make $23.59 an hour? - get real. i'm sure my friend who is selling them to me is not losing money because he is not an idiot. i should stop buying my flies from him even though he is canadian like you and me because he may be employing africans? - get real. free enterprise is a good thing.
