  1. So on Sunday morning me and FNG went out to look for some rising fish, not seeing much we decieded that we would do some hopper dropper fishing and do some prospecting, we were roughly about 50 yards apart and what do you know two yahoo's come down and place themselves right inbetween us.

No hello no nothing, we could of got angry but since the fishin was slow we decieded not to say anything (we really didn't want our day to be ruin but a couple of classless idoits) and moved to a diffrent spot.

I would of expected this out of some spin guys as with my experince with spin guys they usally sit in one spot and do not move, which I always leap frog ahead of them and smile and ask how their day is going. However these guys had fly rods in their hands and I was just kind of surprised as I have never had this happen to me before with Fly Fishers.

Taking the lead from Harps, I decieded that I was going to work on something like he suggested, anyone that wants to help me out is more then welcomed.

  2. I also work in the retail industry, I think it makes them feel better if they can cause an argument with you and in turn ruin your day. If at the end of the conversation if they are still mad i always smile at them and tell them to have a great day. This seems to agitate them even more as they stomp off!!!!!

I fully understand where you are coming from but I honestly do want to find a solution for their problem and I much rather have them leave happy then mad, adding fuel to the fire just isn't me, Im a professional at what I do and what people to feel like they are not getting ripped off or sold the wrong thing.

  3. I've worked in the retail industry for almost 20 years now and the one thing that always amazes me is that when I am unable to help out a customer (Don't carry a item) they feel the need to tell me I am wrong and do not know my job.

Its probably the one thing that annoys me the most and people wonder why sometimes they get bad service, itas not from me cause I always look for a solution for the customer but some people just want to arguye I guess.

I had one yahoo today tell me that I did not know my job and I was an idoit for sending him to another store (company), and that I should call around, pay for it and then resell it to him at my store, really???? When I told him I could not do that he then told me that the customer is always right and that he would be writing a letter to our head office explaining in detail how I would not order an item for him that we did not carry and resell it to him, really does he expect to get me in trouble?

Its gonna be one of those days I can just see it now.

  4. My golden rule is always to say Hi to everyone on the river, regardless to weather they have a fly or spin rod in their hand. I also wave at boats floating by and if they are close enough ask them how their day is going. I also exchange any information or what is working for me.

I have found the nicer you are to people the more enjoyable the experince is out on the river.

Good things comes to good people or so that is what I think.

  5. Hi my name is Brad and my friends say I have a problem, even though I do not see a problem.

I usally spend all my pay cheaque on fishin related stuff, trips tying material, termial tackle, lines, etc.......

I could be spending my money on crack, which is why I do not see a problem.

Okay all jokes aside, I know wat people say, I have thousands of dollers invested into my fly fishin addiction and wouldn't dream of spending my money on anything else.

  6. Its only going to get worse bro! The whole Bow River Etiquette thing is just a joke. In the last 10 years weve gone from walk/wading and a few drift boats to tons of drift boats and jet boats plus I would say probably 10 X the # of people fishing if not more. This has been a topic how many times? People will never figure it out or just refuse to budge because of how things are now, it sucks but weve done it ourselves and now will have to live with it. It will only get busyier and more crowded and when that happens people will go from nice and cool to not nice and cool. Weve seen it start to happen over the last 5 years especially and dont see it slowing down anytime soon unless the river dries up and all

why do you say it can not change? People should always be polite regardless to what they are doing.

And to compare the river 10 years ago, even 5 years ago is kind of unrealistic, just look at how the city has growen in that time period, and you think angling pressure would not go up with a large city such as calgary on its door step?

Also we should not have to put up with the stupid people on the river, to do that or think that is just giving the idoits every excuse to do what they do.

I find the more people I talk friendly to and educate them the less amount of idoits I see on the river, attitude and the way you present yourself to people will always be the way people treat you, act like a ***hole or jerk and you will be treated like one.

It is our duty as stweards of the river to educate people and show them what a wonderful river we have.

And if you want to blame the internet it is some fault but there has been books for years that talked about how great our river is and then you would also have to blame alot of the shops in town also cause they also tell people how great the river is, and word of mouth and so forth and so forth so I find no blame in the internet or anyone else for talking about the aswome river we have.

Times change and cities get bigger that is just a simple fact of life, live with it or don't fish, never has there been a time that I haven't been able to find my own special spot on any givin day on the river, you just need to walk away from your mode of transportation and find the real special places, most people don't want to do that so at the end of the day where they are is crowed, remeber everyone has a right to enjoy the river, time to start sharing it and stop complaining about how crowed it is.

  7. I'm fishing a spot on the shore and three guys in a drift boat come so close that we are about to tangle lines. The guy in the front is literally casting where I'm standing. So to cast back at the guy which seemed to surprise him. I was with my daughter so I kept my language in check.

I've had this happen to me I don't know how many times. I have even had the rower (Do not know if it is a guide or not) tell me that it is proper etiquette for me to stop fishin and allow them to have their pass through as they only get one chance cause they are in a boat.

I usally keep my mouth shut and wait till they pass, no use in me getting mad and ruining my day.

I have found it annoying sometimes when out on a boat coming into poilce and there are people off loading their boat in the launch area, but this is only a very few times, most of the times I have found that if someone is offloading in the launch they usally move out of the way really quickly as the police boat launch is tricky to get into at the best of times when you do not have a motor.

But like everything in life you get some people that think and some people that just do not think.

  8. Okay, so they have a boat with no registration on it.

CO dont care not there job to enforce it

CPS dont care, and can to enforce it if they wish, but how do you catch a jet skier on water with a car?

Bylaw, they care but again they are on water

Fire department, do they really care? if so how far do they go to chase these guys all the way down to caresland?

I really don't think there is much anyone can do.

    Nick,

Just incase you didn't know the poilce have a zodaic with a jet on it as they potrol the bow river in the summer from it, remeber when all the drunk rafters where getting tickets, it was calgary poilce that was doing that.

  9. From what I understand (not me, I like them), some people don't like the fact that with small diameter tippet they tend to slip (there is a new style now that doesn't slip). Others, seem to think they spook the fish... Then there is the fact that they kink the leader... There are probably a few more, but those are the ones I know of...

    P

    Peter,

    1. Small diameter leaders with a indie on it just loop it through twice then and no more slipping.

    2. Spook the fish thats funny, cause if a thingabob is spooking fish then you might as well stop throwing nymphs as the nymphs hitting the water would make alot more splash then a small plastic indie.

    3. Kink in the leader, I can see where some people are coming from this but for nymphs and streamers that is not a issuse, as for dries I always use a diffrent leader as I want the leader to be as straight as possible, alot of times I also buy dynamic leaders and I also use a diffrent rod for dries as well but not everyone can afford multiple rods so this one is the only valid reason.

    Back to topic though.

The tfo NXT 5/6 wt rod can do everything, some people have their own personal reason why something would work with something while other things will not work, at the end of the day the rod cn diffently handle everything in my own opion.

  10. I tie an inline perfection loop for the top one and then a short snell to the fly. I am so old school...me and my neoprenes

Either that or cheep!!!! LOL, J/k

What I tell most people is that they need to find a way that wrks for them, alot of people think there is this magical thing they need to do but in reaility it mostly confidence and presentation.

  11. *Sign*

I really do hate this time as my work is right infront of the Chinook train station and for some reason people think they can park in our parking lot (Before the store even opened the lot was full)

The thing that gets me is there are numerous signs all over the lot that says it is for customer parking only and a max of two hours only. Do people really think they are not going to get ticketed?

Just incase people do not understand why this is fustrating is that the first thing any company needs to provide for a customer is parking, when the company is unable to do this then they have failed the customer before they even enter the store.

For two hours this morning I got to play parking control (Until the real parking control people got here) And explained to people that they could not park in our lot or they would be ticketed, I had 1 old lady swear at me and told me that it was illiegal for us to ticket her, wow never knew private properity was open to the public.

So for anyone that is heading to the stampede fair warning you park in the staples/petsmart parking lot and are there longer then 2 hours you will be ticketed. I belive the ticket prices are $90.00

  12. I voted for loop, as I have a opti creek and a opti mega loop, and love booth my reels, I also like the 3 hatch reels I have and the 1 Bauer reel (My bauer is probably the most durable as I have had it for three years now and never have I ever put any cork grease on it (Okay I lied when I take it into the fly shop they always shake their heads and ask me if I would like them to put some cork grease on it for me as they know I am too lazy to do it myself)

  13. It all depends on what I am throwing.

For example if I am going, sjw, leech, copper john, I diffently go from the hook bend on the sjw to the leech then eye to eye for the next one.

If I do something like SJW, caddis larva, then copper john I go to hook bends on everything.

It all comes down to the type of presentation you want to accoplish, or what type of flies you are tossin (This is my option and seems to work great for me)

With sloppy casting you will always run into the problem of tangles regardless to weather they are from eye to eye or from the hook bend.
