  1. Awesome... Thanks. Anyone know how you could down load and burn the episodes to DVD's?
  2. thanks. I agree the article was a bit of a mess and that is why I was not confident in the photo or the recipe. I had not picked up on the folding the foam back over for the head. When I look at the photo again I see that.
  3. Does anyone have a good web site or photo of a black foam turantula? I was looking through a back issue of fly fusion and saw it in an article. It is a little hard to see the front head and underbody in the photo. I also think the recipe had some errors judging by the photo. The article in quesiton was by Jeremy Davies and the flies originator was Mike Corrigan. Thanks.
  4. No the hunter last year was killed out near Yaha Tinda Ranch -way to the west. This incident occured just off of Hiway 22 between Cremona and Westward Ho.
  5. I know this topic has been discussed repeatedly and I don't want to open up any debates, but I think anyone heading into the Sundre area to fish or hunt needs to be aware that we are experiencing higher than normal bear problems. A hunter was found dead yesterday south of town near the Westward Ho/Bergen road. Suggestions are a grizzly killed him. The bear in question has been sighted today over by the corn maze off of hiway 22. The grade 2 classes were set to go there today for a party -needless to say they cancelled. A boar grizz has been seen 5 miles north of town along the Red (I find this out today after I fished there Tues.). A black bear and cubs have been causing problems in town along the river. A trap has been set for another black bear causing problems west of town, south on range road 6-1. North west of town a ranch has had trouble with a grizz all summer and now the rancher feels there are 2 in the area. A lot of the sightings appear to be along the rivers -where we fish. Maybe the west country is okay since all the bears have moved eastward. Odd the number of grizz that keep being seen and yet they keep telling us how few there are left in Ab. So carry spray, don't carry that smelly sausage and keep your eyes open.
  6. Thank you Aquaholic you said it more politely than I did.
  7. I sure hope none of the family of the man attacked read this post, because it is insulting. If I was laying in the hospital and reading it I know I would be trying to make a speedy recovery to get out and "talk" to you. How do you know what happened. How do you know the man did not trip or slip. Further more animals are unpredictable. My point -don't call someone an idiot when you don't have a clue what happened! And you know for sure the guy has a fat ass do you?
  8. Ya Beaver is north of Sundre. Easiest is thru Caroline and then south.
  9. It was our pleasure. Looking forward to your next visit. Darlene and I just got home from a great day on the Livingstone.
  10. Quaders along Dutch Ck stopped and waited until I was done fishing a hole. When I talked to them they said they had a few crossings that were more gravel and always watched out for fisherman. When the did cross the did carefully and stuck to rock. Great. Then on the Blackstone about 30 came from the north on the Chungo road, across the bridge and then charged into the river. They roared around cleaning their vehicles and then tore up a bank to their huge campsite right beside the bridge. I was sure glad that I was not fishing downstream because fishing would have been done for the evening. I suppose Dutch Ck has more people around and people are more civil. The attitude around the Blackstone that I have seen is that it is the wild west wilderness and "I can do what I want."
  11. I have been heading into bear country for most of my 50 + years... and in all of that time that was the closest I have been to a grizzly. And for the 20 some years that I have been in the Oldman watershed that was the most bears I have ever seen. Talking to a retired forestry worker who was on Dutch Ck he said that there seemed to be more bears down low this year. All I was trying to do was to give people a heads up. Not suggesting that people stay home. I do believe that some people become a little too complacent with bears. All bears, especially grizzlies are unpredictable.
  12. Take care folks! Just got back from camping at Km 45 on the Livingstone. We spent the week watching a black bear "grazing" on the high grassy slopes on the east side of the river directly across from the pull off camping spot. Then Tues night while watching "our" bear we saw another one on the slopes further to the north across from Km 46. Then this morning as we were packing up camp we spotted a small grizzly on the slope the black bear had been on. What was a little unnerving was instead of staying up on the slope it headed rather quickly down into the trees heading down to the river. Don't know where it headed as we were packed and left the area.
  13. I agree San Juan. Aren't all ATV's supposed to be licenced and insured? Mine is. Is that not as good as a permit? Fine the guys out there without licences. And a licence number should be easy to trace just like for road vehicles.
  14. Partial to vests since I have used them for 20+ years. Bought a new Fish Pond vest. Hope the rain quits so I can try it out this year! Tried the chest packs on but with my old man gut I could not see my boots and realized I would be tripping over things because I could not see my feet. Hang my net from the net with the handle down -never a problem snagging then. Like the idea of socks over the neoprene boots -will try it this summer. It might make getting the boots on easier if the sticky neoprene is covered.
  15. You want to avoid crossing barb wire fences during a lightening storm as well. Several ranchers in the area have had cattle hit when they were huddled against the fence during a storm. Blew a couple of posts out of the ground as well. Several years ago on the Crow we were rushing back to our truck ahead of storm. I crossed over the fence while my partner held it down for me. He began to feel a tingling in his hands and could feel his hair start to become charged with static just like a wool sweater in winter. He quickly let go and rolled under the fence. When you think about it a metal fence is a great big wire in a great big loop.
  16. County campground to the north on the little red and great burgers and wings at the saloon.
  17. Sorry she is engaged to a dirt bike racer who does not like to fish. He is being forced to come to the Livingstone this summer and be taught how to fly fish by my daughter. Things we do for love...
  18. Yes all the backroads map books are for sale at Wholesale, as well as tons of other places. MEC, Campers Village, Fishtales, Cdn. Tire, etc. I agree with the idea of using more than one source. I have found errors on all the maps I have used. For example the Backroad map book for SE BC shows a road on the wrong side of Alexander CK. I usually cross reference to check for errors. Sustainable Res. has a new series of maps for the Ghost/Waiporus and the Big Horn -free from Sust Res. or ranger stations.
  19. Daughter is turning 20 and has fished since she was 9. Son, 16, does it when we go on a family outing and he has no choice.
  20. I am really getting depressed. In past years if one area was blown out at least somewhere else was fishing. Anyone interested in group rates for Chile?
  21. Huge checkstop 6 miles west of town at the coal camp junction, 1 mile west of my road, Fri. night. RCMP. CO., county mounties, even paramedics sitting there. I am glad they moved a little west. They used to set up at my road. Sat. they were all patrolling west, in pairs or even 4's. Rumour has it Sat they stopped anyone at the coal camp junction with the intent of going camping and turned them away with the excuse that the area was already too full (???) Doubtful you would see them in town or on the hiway -patrol focuses on the west country.
  22. Good luck with your meeting. I'll try to get some shots of the chained areas. However, I am not real anxious to drive out west this weekend. Might get my daughter and her friends to take some for me. I'll keep my eyes open the rest of the year. Might be a good idea to go out next weekend and get some shots of the messes that are always out there. Years back the 4H voluteered to do a clean up after the long weekend at the bighorn staging area -they were completely overwhelmed and spent 2 solid days with a couple of dozen volunteers cleaning the area.
  23. Not a bad idea. I could do a web site called fish sundre and all the links would link to the golf courses. Seriously, it took me 5 min. to get through the 4 way stop this morning. Normally I have to wait for 1 or 2 other vehicles. I might sneak into town tomorrow just to see the line up.
  24. Just another heads up about the Sundre area. Forget fishing, try golf(?) The big problem is if you want to drive through town Fri. Traffic is always terrible on the bridge but they have now started major construction at the 4 way stop. They are installing traffic lights. But traffic right now is down to single lane. It is going to be a mess Fri. If you can take an alternate route do so. The businesses in town would be ticked at me but I have seen the line up a mile back up to golf course when there is no construction. So you are warned. Take care this weekend, especially if you are driving.
