Yep. Head to Wholesale and check out the Okuma reels. Line wise it is tough to beat the basic Scientific Angler floating line for $21. I know a friend who swears by the stuff and he can cast it a mile too.

That place is a blast. I originally had plans to fish Taylor Lake last summer but because of the construction of the highway(twinning the Trans Canada) I was unable to. So, I stopped by Bourgeau with my pup, and we had a great afternoon. The lake is packed with 5-10" brook trout. There was a big hatch going on and they were hammering a #16 p-adams. It is pretty good to that when you do fly fish a National Park you are only alowed one fly and no lead. Fine with me. There are a ton of great places to fish in BNP.

Epic! Cool show...your dog is awesome too... -
That was a good get together! Those Hardy reels that Dutchie brought in were insane. That big 'ol 1912 was a great piece of work. It is unreal the workmanship that go into those.

See ya there...BBT I don't think there will be cake LOL...you can bring some though...

You are entitled to your opinion. I honestly don't think it will ever be shoulder to shoulder out there. It can be a tough place to fish sometimes, especially for guys fishing from boats and trolling. I have seen a lot of guys get snuffed out there and they never come back. The 2 lakes are so big there are TONS of places to fish. I can bounce between both lakes all day long. There are great places to hike too...cripes you can fish up at Rawson come back down and fish the K lakes. You can actually fish 3 lakes in a day if you wanted to. Don't get so down on overcrowding...we should be encouraging people to get out and enjoy the mountains. Learn to relax.

The problem with the bug situation in both lakes is caused by the fluctuating water levels. This may change in the year 2013. I hope so. It is unreal the water level in the month of May compared to the end of November. The rainbows were last stocked in the lower lake in 1988. When we shocked Boulton we had 66 adult rainbows, so the the rainbow population is very low and we hope with the new regs on Boulton that this will change things around. Time will tell. It is pretty cool that these stocked fish have adapted and are reproducing. I have caught 14" rainbows in the lower. As far as I know, nothing is reproducing in the upper lake, except for suckers. They will both be in both lakes for a very long time. There was also talk at the roundtable meeting about modifying one of the creeks that flow into the upper to accomodate spawning cutthroat.

Proposed Regulation Changes Part 2

BHURT...you are right...if you want to sign the new one you can...but I have your name from the first petition as well...keep signing it..lol -
Maybe. The first petition we did was taken seriously enough to be mentioned by SRD regarding a proposed regulation change during the roundtable meeting at Bass Pro on DEC 15th. We can make a difference. And I am sure it will get mentioned at the next one too. You can only make reg change every 2 years. We just need to get involvement and show that we want something done.

Proposed Regulation Changes Part 2
dekkard2019 replied to dekkard2019's topic in News Discussion and Current Issues
Thanks Jay! Locke I will take your opinion into consideration. I want to hear everyone's opinion. Yes, the 1 over 50cm still does target spawners, but the ones between 40 and 50 will be protected. It really is hard to please every fisherman. Right now guys can take 3 trout! Let's try and make it 1. That will make a big difference. Look what happened in Smith-Dorrien (tributary to the lower Kananskis Lake)...they were down to 60 spawning bull trout in 1992...it almost got wiped out. Luckily, Garrie Gillund stepped in and the bull trout made a huge turnaround. This year approximately 923 redds were counted in the creek! We just want to try and make this a quality fishery, and we think this is the best way. But we are ALWAYS open to discussion. -
Proposed Regulation Changes Part 2

Thanks Beed. I will have those petitions out for the next month. I know it is a busy time of year, but if you have the chance, and you want to make a difference, I would like your help. The fish will thank you too. The first petition made enough of a difference to actually bring the entitre topic up at the roundtable meeting. Jim Stelfox has done a good job! -
Proposed Regulation Changes Part 2

I have but my computer skills aren't up to par...lol. Thanks! -
Hello All. I attended the Prairies and Southern Rockies Area Joint Roundtable this past Wednesday. Some good topics were discussed and good presentations made by members of ASRD. The Bow River was mentioned along with the dwindling population of the Westslope Cutthroat Trout. "This species has been identified as Threatened by the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC). It is currently being considered for listing under the federal Species At Risk Act (SARA)." But that should be mentioned under another thread. It is bothersome though. I love cuttys. The proposed regulation changes that I brought up here on FFC was brought up in the meeting and that is what I would like to discuss in this topic. Some of you have helped me with my previous petition for making a regulation change and I am asking for your help again if you wish. The current regulations for the Upper and Lower Kananaskis lakes are: "Open all year-Trout (except bull trout) limit 3; Cutthroat and Rainbow Trout over 30 cm; Bait Ban." We feel that these lakes have the potential to provide quality fisheries. To that end, we are proposing that the following regulations be implemented, so as to permit quality fisheries to develop: "Open all year-Trout (except bull trout) limit 1; Cutthroat and Rainbow Trout over 50 cm; Bait Ban." Some of the issues we are faced with are that: Catchable-sized (20-30 cm) Cutthroat Trout are being stocked in both Kananaskis Lakes. Many stocked fish are being harvested shortly after stocking. Current size limit provides no protection for spawners. Cutthroat and Rainbow Trout can grow to a very large size and provide a quality fishery, if allowed to live long enough. I know there are a lot of opinions on what should be done, but we think this is a good route. If you have any other ideas or suggestions please let me know here or send me a pm. Again, I have petitions at several locations in Calgary. I have petitions at Southbow, Wholesale Sports, and Fish Tales. If you have a group of people interested in this I can send you a petition via email. Just pm me the details and I will get one to you and then you can mail it back to me. Thanks again to people like Mike at Southbow...Dave, Terry, and Nancy at Fish Tales...and of course Tyler down at Wholesale. I appreciate all your help. Beedhead may also try and paste an attachment to show you guys what is going on in a little more depth. Oh yeah, thanks to the folks down at SRD and Trout Unlimited.

Ya got some real cool pictures there! I like the "fish on" picture. Ah, yes, the Bow River Bones are feeding hard right now. Gotta love 'em.

I agree with Gaffer. I got the SIMMS G3 Guide pant and they are wicked. You can't beat the MADE IN USA . If ya got the cash, go with it. I got mine down at Westwinds. Gordie knows his stuff! I am sure that Dan Bailey makes a pretty good pant that are more lighter than the G3 but not nearly as durable.

Thanks for the tip! I wanted to see that movie. I really like science fiction movies. The last good one I saw was Predators. Nothing worse than paying a ton o' money on a show and it licks. -
