Used that Intenet TV to watch the game tonight. Not bad - thanks again for whoever posted that link.
You can sure tell that the Flames do not want a shoot-out (especially Phaneuf) and the other teams just play for a shoot-out aginst the Flames. Who wouldn't.
So 9 games without a win. Fact is that the Flames have run into incrediblly goaltending (easy to say that the Flames just can't score, but if you saw some of Bryz saves tonight (including the two amazing saves in overtime), you have to give the opposing goalies credit). I won't be too negative, but here are some interesting numbers.
Over the nine games - Flames have outshot the opponent 271 to 267 - pretty close. Opposing Goalie save % 0.948. Consider that Ryan Miller has the best save % in the league at .934 and it is like the Flames have played better than the best goalie over a 9 game stretch. Flames Save % over the same period .876. Of the 74 goalies with stats in the league , 67 of them have better than an .875 save percentage. Of the 7 with a worse save percentage only one (Toskala) has played more than 10 games.
For Hawg - in 9 games the Flames have been penalized more often than the other team 6 times, the same amount twice and have had more powerplays once. They've had no 5:3 advantages and been down 5:3 four times. They've had no penalty shots and had one called against them. I know, I know Smitty - they are a dirty team. Just saying.
3 of the games have gone to shoot-outs. Calgary has stopped 3 of 8 shots against (2 of which missed the net) for a save% of .375 and the opposing goalies have stopped 7 of 8 shots for a save percentage in shootouts of .875 (roughly the same save percentage on breakaways as the Flames save percentage during the games).
All in all - in my opinion they should be at least .500. Can't say as I enjoy watching their style of play, though.

If I've learned anything from this board, and particularly the posts regarding climate change, is that I'd rather spend my time actually doing something to help the climate change situation than spend time trying to educate those who cannot be about the situation. Enjoy the rest of the self-debate!

IMO, Phaneuf was the best player (besides Conklin) on either team last night.
My problem with Darryl is not so much the team he has assembled on the ice this year (or other years), it is that we really have no superstar potential on the horizon. Watching Backlund play, unless he gets alot faster, alot stronger, and alot better this year - he is not a 1st line centre. Other than that - who do we have? Free agents are good pieces, but any of the teams that are up and coming, and will dominate for the next few years, have a core that is made up of young developed talent (LA, Phoenix, Col, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Washington....). We have?
Now - as for Brent's system. Thats a different story. While Jerome is certainly struggling with it, the guys that have suffered most are Glencross who has gone from good to poor, and Bourque, who went from being one of the most effective players in the NHL to someone you hardly notice on the ice.

Last interview I saw with Jarome, his mouth was saying those things, but his body language/facial expression was saying "I give up"!
I'm a big fan of Iggy, but he ain't himself right now, and it ain't just one of his usual mini-slumps. Somethings going on with him; could it be something not hockey related (his personal life)? No, I haven't heard any rumors; just grasping at straws...
Part of me says he doesn't deserve to be on the Olympic team; another part of me hopes that will be just the tonic he needs to get his game back.
Time will tell.

The funniest thing is listening to the Sport-snot guys trying salvage viewership by suggesting the Flames still have a shot at the playoffs.
Maybe we'll get lucky and Brent will decide to spend more time with his family - worked out well for New Jersey.

Wasn't there a guy awhile back that killed someone and went to jail for it, then returned and had a long career in the NHL? Course he played in a city where more fans had a criminal record than had all four front teeth.

Thanks for the links Weedy. I'm glad I wasn't so quick to judge him (he doesn't want pity, but he has mine) but I am of the opinion sports teams, being revered by youth and society, have an obligation to consider the image they portray to society. They need to weigh that against their desire to win ($) (and get the goonery and violence out of the sport, but that is a whole different thread).
I'm glad he's finally got his head on straight but I think he now needs to learn how to deal with life like the rest of us and learn how to live it without hockey and the lime light. It sounds like he can do it. Why not? Thousands like him have. I wish him all the best and I hope he can do better then dishwashing. I just don't want the kids in my neighborhood worshiping a guy with that background (like many football, basketball, baseball players that all too often get a second break because they make the owners B$g Bucks).
One thing I've learned about kids (and I used to be one) is monkey see, monkey do.
Yeah - I watched the 5th estate episodes too - but you should go read the transcripts from the Sportnest interview from a month ago. The guy is in scary denial - completely messed in the head still. That Frost freak is one seriously demented piece of work.

Well - I'm not going to debate the climate change but here is my problem.
Here is what the CNN article says as its headline and in the article:
NASA: Last decade was warmest ever
So - I go to the NASA website and here is what the NASA paper says:
January 2000 to December 2009 was the warmest decade on record.
So - I guess thats the same thing, right? Well - if we consider that the CNN headline states that it was the warmest decade in the history of earth. It is generally accepted that the earth is roughly 4.5 Billion years old, the CNN headline states that out of the 450 Million decades since earth began, the last was the hottest - that is pretty disturbing. What the NASA report really says though is that on record - which is from 1880 to 2010 - or 13 decades, it is the warmest ever. So we have data on 13 decades out of 450 Million decades, but CNN feels that they ought to have a headline that says NASA: Last decade was warmest ever. I tend to think that there just might have been a few warmer decades somewhere in the other 450 Million decades since earth began. Especially when every climate specialist I've ever met has agreed that the earth has been warming and cooling since earth began.
Its really hard to understand why us knuckle dragging non-believers might suggest the public is being misled when this is the kind of BS we have to read.

What does it take for the flames to get a 4 min penalty for high sticking drawing blood called for them. Last 3 high sticks against a Calgary player that drew blood netted the flames 2 mins in pp time, not that the flames pp is great. Getting a little sick of Calgary players heading For the bench with blood streaming down there face and no penalty called.
Yup - Jay B looked pretty beat up. The thing about that was that the Flames were only about 20 seconds into their powerplay so it would have been 5:3 for 1min 40, followed by another 2 min 20 of 5:4. The Flames powerplay - Vancouver, Mtl, or Chicago it ain't - but it has been pretty good the past few games. The non-call on the high stick was the turning point in the game.
The last game I went to, Phaneuf got tossed about a minute in and then LA got that ridiculous Penalty Shot. Last nights Penalty shot was also brutal. I won't waste any more money on the NHL by going to watch that crap. Sutter has them playing his system perfectly - and it is brutally boring to watch. If your team is going to be horribly boring, the least they could do is win once in awhile. If Sutter can admit that it is his "System" that isn't working (not that they aren't playing his system), and HE needs to make some changes to how he expects them to play, then maybe they can turn it around and get back into a position to lose to Chicago or San Jose in the first round. I'll make my call at the Olympic break.
Not sure Iginla is worth much. Big contract and still has several years on it. If he has a good Olympics (and the Flames are still in the dumpster), much as I like Jerome, I'd trade him for a first round pick or a top prospect. In three years, no matter how bad the pick turns out, it'll be worth more than Jerome. Jerome deserves to play on a team that he can win with (Detroit or Colorado would be a good fit, but unlikley Sutter would let him stay in the West). He is one of my all-time favorites and it is tough to see him stifled by a system he obviously doesn't enjoy and is not successful in.

Funny how everyone gets so bent out of shape over the San Jose loss. It was a bad game. In my opinion, it was the first time they were outplayed badly in 12 games. In 7 of the 11 previous games, the Flames outplayed the opposition by a serious margin.
In 3 of the previous 4 they outplayed and badly outshot the opposition, but lost. Those are the losses that bothered me. The stinker against San Jose - it happens. They were outplayed, but no worse than Washington was outplayed last night (Washington outshot 46:23 won and the game) and as I said previously, no worse that Colorado was outplayed by the Flames last week (Colorado Outshot 46-21 and Colorado won the game). San Jose outshot the Flames 46:22 and with Kipper playing as well as the other goalies (Anderson and Theodore) the Flames would probably have still lost, but not 9:1 and certainly those other two games showed that a team can be horribly outplayed and win a game. The Flames did it 3 of the first 4 games this season, based on stellar goaltending.
So - the San Jose game really didn't bother me. They lost, but deserved to lose. It was the previous 4 losses that were really frustrating to me, but hey, it happens.
There was a team last year that was 27-25-5 after 57 games - The Flames are currently 26-19-6 (if you count the loss they will suffer to Chicago tomorrow). That same team from last year lost 8 of 10 games from Dec 27 to Jan 14th, including a humilating 6-1 home loss to the Florida Panthers (an 11th place team in the Eastern Conf at the time). The coach got fired on Feb 15th. That team ended up doing alright last year, ending up with a win in their final game on June 12th.

Pretty freaking bad, and i won't blame it soley on Kipper. The defence was absolutely terrible. The offence was terrible..all in all, let's hope this rev's them up like last time they got wrecked by SJ
All around bad game. Consider though that Calgary outshot Colorado by virtually the same margin 42-21, and outplayed them as badly as San Jose outplayed the Flames last night, yet Colorado WON 3-2.
Flames deserved to lose last night, but should have be 4-1 at the worst.

Actually - the advice is correct. What they are trying to do here is make sure that you don't click on the link in the email message because, although the link might display as www.yourcompany.human resources.company survey in your email, the url address embedded in the link might actually be www.identifytheft.nowyouarescrewed.com - it is easy to edit links to display (right click on the link, Edit hyperlink, and change the Text to display to whatever you want). If you copy the displayed text and paste it in your browser it will try to go to the displayed url - which probably does not exist or may be your legitimate compnay website.
The Phishing effort is to try to make you think it is legit because the url has your company web address in it. If you just hit the link, it may come up with a webpage that looks exactly like your company webpages, and if you don't check the address bar (or some people don't even show the address bar) you'll think you're on your company website and won't notice you're over at nowyouarescrewed.com.

How brutally offside was the play last night that anahiem scored it's 5th goal on??? am I the only one who was up screaming at the TV?? things like this are so crucial... and come at such bad times in the game... people wonder why I think the refs have a conspiracy... they only called what they HAD to call against anahiem... even though the sticks were on flames players hands all night.
Doesn't Matter. Unless you have goaltending - and Calgary does not have it right now, you will not win. Curtis terrible last night, Kipper brutal tonight. Last night the Flames outshot Anaheim 19-7 in the third and got outscored 2-0. Tonight Bryzgalov lets in 3 goals on 13 shots and he gets pulled. Kipper lets in 3 goals on 15 shots (4 of which resulted from juicy rebounds he sent right back (two of which ended up in the net) but you can't pull him, because his back-up is no better.
Flames absolutely dominate 3 of 4 games - lose all 4. Then tonight, they finally get outshot in a period, and the idiots on Sportsnot are falling over themselves about how badly the Flames played. There wasn't one goal in the first that a decent goalie wouldn't have stopped. The rebounds on the first goal and third goals were brutal and the Malholtra goal was weak as well.

Telling weak coming up for the Flames - Col, Pit, Nashville - all good teams- and the Flames seem to play better agasint the good teams.
Brutal - three home Games - 3 goals, 3 losses, 1 point. They should have had 4 points at least (didn't see tonights game). We play Colorado 2 more times this year - hopefully Sutter gets the message and puts Curtis in.

Saying that Anderson outplayed kipper is true to a point, however, how many crossbars and posts were hit in the game by the flames....a LOT,
you seem to have a personal vendetta to one of the goaltenders that many are placing in the top 3 of the year so far..
As I recall, Anderson faced 46 shots that didn't hit the post etc and he stopped 44 (.956). Kipper faced 21 shots and only stopped 19 (.904).
The difference between me and most media/fans in Calgary is that when Kipper plays excellent I point it out (read some of my earlier posts) but when he doesn't play well, including letting in a very soft goal in a very tight game that his team is dominating, I'm not afraid to say it, whereas most people won't say boo.
Tough for me to have a personal vendetta against Kipper - never met the man.

Frustrating loss. Colorado is brutal again but gets lucky.
Someone tell me just how pathetic Kipper has to play before the announcers will admit he was the difference. The second goal ranks in the top ten weakest goals this year - 5 of which I think Kipper has let in. Talk about Anderson all you want, but the Flames staked Kipper to a 2 goal lead and he let in two weak ones or it doesn't matter how many stops Anderson makes in the 3rd.
The only reason Col is even close to the top of the division is that Kipper has been outplayed by Anderson 4 times in a row - Col deserved to lose all four games. And all the idiots on Sportsnet can say is how good the Colorado team is playing. If the Flames had played the game Colorado did tonight, they would have lost 8-1 (all eight goals of which Kipper would have had "no chance" on) and all anyone would have spoken about is what a poor game the team played, how they aren't playing the system etc. etc.
The Flames absolutley dominated Colorado...again. Maybe one of the morons on Sportnet could just tell it like it is. Flames played great (including the PP) all night, Colordao terrible all night, Anderson played great AND Kipper played poorly.

I hate Telus. Period.
I am so jaded by them that when we moved into a new house, I went with Vonage so that I wouldn't have to deal with Telus for a LAN line. Vonage isn't perfect but it's ALWAYS $20.99 per month and when my vonage magic-box went on the fritz, I phoned customer services, talked with someone immediately, and they sent me a new box in 2 business days for free. Now that is customer service.
Thats exactly what I did when I moved in 2005. I used to have telus internet, mobile and local phone, but had nothing but poor service. I went with Shaw and Vonage, Rogers for mobile. That was 4 1/2 years ago and I'm saving $60 per month with this new option and the service has been very good from all parties - works out to over $3200 so far.
As for the hosing that pipes took here - far as I'm concerned, it is despicable and suggesting that it is covered in the fine print doesn't cut it for me. Heard some miserable stories about telus in the past, but this is by far the worst I've heard.

Nice game last night.
Other than the weak Flame powerplay and excellent Vancouver powerplay - total domination of play by the Flames. They really need to figure out how to get the puck in the net though.
Canuck fans show just how low they are with the laser in Kipper's eye thing.
Telling weak coming up for the Flames - Col, Pit, Nashville - all good teams- and the Flames seem to play better agasint the good teams. The only loser team they seem to be able to beat is Edmonton. Like last year - there is no rivalry with Edmonton, it only lasts for the first few weeks of the season before Edmonton drops so far down that it is just sad. Vancouver-Calgary rivalry is going strong though

The plan is to have a draft report out by YE 2010 - and if it is like most regional plans, that is when the heavy debate will start as people start to realize just what is at stake and how this can affect THEM.

I think everyone just has to accept that if you fish for sport, some fish will die. Even the most careful catch and release fisherman will release fish that will die.
Let me ask you this. Say I'm a guy that flyfishes maybe 8 days a year and on a good day, I catch 4 fish, handle them poorly and 3 of the 4 die. In total - I've been responsible for the mortality of 24 fish in a year.
Now lets say that fishing is my life, I fish 50+days per year, and I'm so good that I catch 10 fish per day. I'm so careful that only 1 of each ten fish die. So in a year, I'm responsible for the mortality of 50 fish.
Is either guy hurting thr river? If so, who is hurting it more?
I ask because I've seen lots of criticism on this board about people handling fish improperly, but have never seen anyone say boo about anyone fishing a river too often.
Not taking a position either way, and I'm glad I've learned to handle fish more carefully than I did in the past, but I like to look at situations differently than most.
