  1. No need to spend a fortune on goggles!! Get a pair of smiths, they are just fine. I would recommend getting two pairs, one bronze or orange tint for cloudy days and a purplish pair for sunny days. If you were to get just one get the gold tint ones... Way more important to get some definition on the flat light days! Otherwise you can get surprised by the terrain somtimes, Oakleys are way overpriced and not much different - they all scratch the same after a couple wipeouts. You should be able to get some smiths for 50 bucks. They will not fog so long as you are moving.
  2. Check out Glitter and Doom from old Tom Waits - great album! Have you checked out the deep dark woods? From saskabush great band!
  3. I like how the guy asked if he was going to fish for the risers or keep walking??!! Uhh ya I don't think too many of us saints would keep walking! lol Some one has the saying here 'never leave fish to find fish' I think that would apply here
  4. I'll believe the world is cooling when the glaciers start growing instead of receeding. I've spent plenty of time in the high country and can tell you they are moving the wrong way. Also there are quite a few pollutants in the snow up there -somewhat surprisingly - they are more exposed to the jet stream and socalled pristine areas are actually reasonably contaminated. Also not that it matters , I know CO2 is what gets everyone excited, but shouldn't we try to do something about pollution that accompanies the co2 released when burning fossil fuels. Otherwise lets just kill the clean engery debate and go full bore with cheap coal power if it doesn't make any difference to anyone! I could use a break on my power bill.
  5. This thread is moronic, the bottom line is would you like to breathe clean (er) air or not? To me it is a pollution issue more than anything a g;pba; warming issue. Anyone who says that co2 is not pollution has never breathed the smog of a large city. Maybe not but whatever is coming out the exhaust pipe is burning my throat worse than a shot of rubbing alcohol.lol Yes Aberta used to be tropical - it also used to lie near the equator , It also used to be under the ocean - so what? (plate tectonics). Everyone gets so excited about this crap and I'm not sure what the point is. Just do what you can on your own make your self less of a burden to the Environment. Government and big industry are full of it, we are the pawns.
  6. Let me know how you do with Korkers Hawstappah. Mine exploded on the weekend as well. The top metal grommet came loose and as I tightened the laces they sawed through the top hole. Have had them only a year or so. I'm an hour away from the shop I got them from.
  7. I've heard good things about oak creek or lees ferry
  8. yep I caught a brookie out of the allen bill eddy a couple years ago , haven't been back since though.
  9. Thanks for the replies guys. I guess those cows up there need to lay more turds in the river.
  10. I am wondering why it seems that the sheep is the poor sister among trout streams in the area. Compared to the Livingstone and Highwood as well as the Bow it gets a lot less credit and seem sto hold less trout. Do you agree with this, and if so what are your theories?
  11. I bought one and love it! They are very light, pack small and load quickly, making a lot of false casting unnecessary. I would give it full marks for accuracy. The only thing I don't like is the hardware on the reel lock, it seems a bit light and possibly flimsy. Its my new favorite rod.
  12. NOOOOO "THE Show" is retiring!? Worst ref - but the best name in the biz.
  13. Check out this article comparing fly rods. It makes a lot of good points and does a fair amount of comparison between these two and many others. The results may be surprising to some. A few of the heavy weights come out looking spotty. Hope the link works, If not cut and paste. http://www.yellowstoneangler.com/FlyRodCom...nrodtesting.asp
  14. That broomstick has some fast action! Must be expensive... mmm
  15. Is the courtland stuff any good? I have read mixed reviews. Thanks for the suggestions!
  16. I'm looking at getting some new floating line this year for my 5 wt. What is the best line you have had for both performance and durability?
  17. I have fished with a cork reel for some time but have always hated the ripping sound when pulling line from the reel. I was sight fishing on a small flat water section of creek last summer and noticed that the sound alone sent the trout scrambling. I would sneak up remain low and slowly strip a bit of line 2-3 ft before casting. as soon as the sound was heard they were gone! frustrating. Anyway I was wondering if anyone else has modified thier reels or had any other gear suggestions. I ended up taking out the spring today - no more sound... the only downside I can see is not attracting attention (with the rippng sound) when you have a big fish on taking out line. Any comments?
  18. I'm talking about streams you can't step across and that might be open in the winter or early spring. Is the Dogpound a spring creek? - It sort of looks like one when you out are out there. I'm not looking for secret streams- just decent sized spring creeks that might have open water.
  19. Besides the North Raven and Elk Creek can you think of any?
