  1. Congratulations SD -- I knew the rest of us were toast when I saw your entry. Terry
  2. Weedy, thanks for your post -- it sure makes more sense to me than what I heard in Linda Keen's recent testimony. I wonder if we shouldn't have another poll now that everyone has had a chance to read some relevant facts from AECL. I can't believe the vote is currently 2:1 in support of shutting down the reactor. Are you guys all bureaucrats or what ? Terry
  3. Just kidding. I'm always happy. Everyone starts at zero -- may the voting begin. Terry
  4. Nice hijack Chris. Anyway, after last night's game, I have to say, Oilers suck. However, let's talk after the first round of the playoffs. Now, back to "Homage Flies" Terry
  5. Do those of us who made the Sunday 9PM deadline get a 5 vote bonus? Terry
  6. I take it you prefer swimming in the Bow? Hope your tetanus shot is up to date. Terry
  7. Maybe this is the reason . Terry
  8. Don, makes me want to reach for my wallet to support Stream Watch, and I will. What's a dicky bird? Terry
  9. Ok, I'm in on this one too. This fly is my attempt at the Morris Emerger (callibaetis). Its designer, Skip Morris, is undoudtedly one of the top contemporary fly tyers, and in addition to publishing a number of excellent books, he has designed many very interesting flies. The Morris Emerger, which can be tied in a variety of sizes and colours to represent different mayfly emergers, is a design that falls between the comparadun and the Quigley emerger. It is designed to take a position in the film that falls between the position of these two flies (like that shown in the photo). What got me thinking about tying and using this pattern, was that I just came back from the Northern Lights/TUC seminar held last weekend in Edmonton, in which Skip Morris and Rick Hafele were the star attractions. I came away with quite a few patterns that I want to use this summer. Terry Morris Emerger (callibaetis) Hook: TMC 2487 #12 - 16 Thread: Tan 8/0 or 6/0 Tail: Brown mottled hen-saddle Rib: Fine gold wire Abdomen: Mottled brown turkey primary Thorax: Olive-grey dry fly dubbing Wing: Bleached coastal deer hair
  10. We got the old "dead cat bounce" today. The real story -- good or bad -- will come in the days that follow. We old guys have ridden out this kind of drop before -- for you young guys, relax, it will be ok again, if you have time to wait. Terry
  11. Ban all random camping within 2km of the trunk road. There are very nice campgrounds available, which are half empty most of the summer. It's BS to say you don't get the same "wilderness camping" experience in the existing campgrounds. Well how different is it to drive 100m off the road and random camp -- especially if you're using a 25ft trailer or motorhome? If people want the real wilderness experience, then put on the hiking boots and hike some serious kms. What may have worked 10 or 20 years ago is no longer viable, given the numbers of people we're dealing with today. It is simply not sustainable. Terry
  12. I'm three years away from getting the over 65 freebie license. Therefore, I hope this gives me some credibility when I suggest the seniors free license be eliminated. If you use the resource, you should pay for it -- I don't care how old you are. Older guys are catching more fish too, given they have all that experience -- right? BBT, I also like your suggestion of two classes of license -- one for stocked lakes, another for fragile areas (eg. the Livingstone). Lastly, as has often been suggested on this forum, something has to be done about the non-resident license fee to bring it in line with other provinces and states. Terry
  13. Cujo as #1, hmmmmmm? Terry
  14. Man, this is going to be tough. I think I have to sleep on it and vote in the morning. Weedy, your half dozen are in the mail. Terry
  15. Ah, now you've blown my cover. Terry
  16. Actually Chris, I wasn't talking about the Oilers, so no need to bury us all in numbers. The question I raised was what's the point of the Flames making the playoff's, when they can't ever get past the first round (don't remind me about THE Cup). Remember the Peanuts cartoon where Lucy pulls the football away every time Charlie Brown comes to kick it -- sort of reminds me of the relationship between the Calgary Flames and their fans. Terry
  17. Yes, but what's the point????? Great game last night. Terry
  18. That is one awesome fish for the Crow -- well done. Looks like the river has opened up a bit and more warm weather to come -- spring can't be far away. Terry
  19. This looks like a tough crowd to compete with, but here goes anyway. Andy, I posted a picture of this fly on the FFAlberta forum last year (not in a tying competition -- actually I won that one with a midge emerger), but I tied this one up today and the picture was taken today. I hope that makes my entry legit. The design is mine. I used it last spring and it actually caught fish. Terry Starling Midge Recipe: Hook: TMC 2487, #16 - #20 Thread: 8/0 Black Rib: Extra fine silver wire Collar: white ostrich herl Soft hackle: starling
  20. Actually, both my life experience and my fishing experience lead me to believe it's the other way round. If a fish mind can be tricked, what chance does a poor human have? Terry
  21. The news about Police Outpost is great -- I'll be spending some time there next spring for sure. Beyond that, I think it is outstanding that SRD has heard the voice of reason from the "quality fishery" crowd. This is an incremental process, and I think ADC, dryfly, and all the others who moved this proposal along, have taken a step that goes well beyond Police Outpost. Thanks very much guys. Terry
  22. You have to be as old as Clive to know how old that joke is . It's still a good laugh though. Terry
  23. Yes, but now you can boycott online. Terry

    Fish Photo

LS, we had wheels on the 'toons as well (don't think you could do it otherwise). Even so, on the steep streches, we also had to do the push-pull two man thing. Never again -- next time I'll back pack a tube. BTW, to make matters worse, it was really windy and the fishing sucked the day we went. Terry PS sorry everyone for the attempted hijack .
