Jmasson, We are not completely ignorant, but thanks for all the tips. I've seen many bulls caught earlier in the year that were also very dark. Some of which were posted here. That was the point of the statement. I believe age is a factor in fish appearance also. If there had been any indication of females in the vicinity, or that there was pairing up and redd activity, no attempt would have been made at it. Lorne holds a degree in biology so I am comfortable with his judgement. At no time in any of our fishing is the health or welfare of the fish put secondary. Ever. This area was well scouted out, and the fish was actively feeding, obviously, and no pairing up, redd activity, or females were seen anywhere in the area. I just read an interesting article on the Highwood survey, check it out. This post wasn't put up to start any arguments, nor do I particularly care to wast any time engaged in any. I want my grandchildren to be able to fish for all the species I myself enjoy pursuing so much. That being said, myself, and Lorne also wouldn't think of doing anything to jeopardize that. And if the regs were changed to state that one cannot fish for Bulls at that time of year I would gladly abide by them. As for this fish being "easy to catch" this was most certainly not the case...

Thanks rusty.

For everyone that seems to have a problem with this post, notice there's no date given as to when the fish was caught... If this had been put up a month ago would there be all the commotion?

Spooked this guy out from an undercut bank on the way back upstream. We weren't sure what it was as neither of us saw it, just the splash and the smoke trail as he high-tailed it away. Later in the day caught a cutt in a nearby riffle, it ran near some broken water and BAM. All I got back was a corkscrewed tippet. Streamer time.. but no dice. Came back 2 more times, third time was a charm when Lorney nailed him. Taped 28.5 inches. And it took 2 days for the grin to come off Lorney's face... Got video of the whole show, if I can ever outsmart this camera I'll try to upload.

As of this morning I'll be working the Sat. of your clinic. I'll be out of town for a week or so, so I guess I'll have to catch it next time. Sorry for the runaround...

My scheduling for work just got changed... May still be off Sat. though, am definitely interested. What are the details? (Time, place, etc.?)

Most have probably seen this already.. Sun.pdf_2.pdf

I'd be interested.. Is the clinic the same topics both days? I've never spey casted but would like to learn more. Don't have a spey rod either, would that be a problem?

Here's mine.. I recently started tying, and copied a pattern I saw called an RBE Emerger. Went out to Bullshead one day earlier this year and saw some decent fish feeding in shallow water about 4 feet from shore. Figured "what the hell" as they were taking from the surface, so I tied on this thing I (poorly) tied. Chucked it out and this fella nailed it. After I set the hook I kinda regretted using 5 x tippet as he freight trained me right through the weeds, and I thought for sure he would bust me off. Took a while to land, but taped at 20 inches. Not a huge fish, but nailing it on a fly I spun made it pretty memorable.

Most shops are good about letting you try lenses instore, mess around a bit and get a feel for the range and see if its right for you. Most have pretty good return policies, (or so I've found) and have been able to return a lens after I tried it out a bit. Wasn't quite what I wanted, and exchanged no problem. (On 11 th Ave I think it was...)

4 piece is definitely the way to go, no matter what the make.... -
Making whoopee is about right... There's an old ranch house on the side of the road where the 36 crosses the Oldman. I stopped there to take pics of it, and as I walked up to it I almost tripped on a huge Bullsnake. Or so I thought, it was about 8 feet long, and in tall grass. I noticed it was 2 laying side by side. I watched a bit, (voyeuristic I know) and that is what happened. Got a few good closeups. As for rattlers, heres one from Bindloss.

Almost stepped on this on the Oldman, but nowhere near the usual fishing areas. Near the 36 where it crosses. Never thought I'd post this here but since the topic's started and I kinda liked the pic...

Doesn't look like much to do with fishing, but I was chuckin streamers for Pike and this fence was about 50 feet from the water's edge. I kinda liked how it looked.

Digital Rebel SLR with Tamron 18-250 Wide Angle Zoom. Can be a pain in the ass to pack around, and I've had some close calls when crossing streams etc. And depends on the circumstances if I even get it out. Especially solo, can be hard to position a fish for a pic. I usually don't mess around too much, so I've missed alot I would have liked to get, but not big on harming fish just for a pic. I like the versatility of it, and its great for scenery, etc. Not real handy with it but once in a while I screw up bad enough and get a pic worth keeping..

Highight of the day, hooked a small rainbow in this pool, just ready to land it and this guy hammered him about 8 times right in front of me. Lots of commotion and a yell to Lorne who nailed him on a streamer.
