  3. There are new items up for auction, have a look. We are starting to get donations from companies as well! Remember, the donation does not have to be fishing related. This is a great cause. Anyone who can donate, please do. The rest of you, BID!!
  4. More new items today!! Also, thanks to the many people who have donated so far. Starting to get some donations from companies, and some creative ones at that. The donation does not have to be fishing related. Let's see if we can make this the best streamwatch auction yet. Toolman set a high bar, lets see if we can sneak over it!
  5. Schaweet!! Guideline rod? If it isn't and it is a really expensive rod I don't recognize, I apologize! If it is, how do you like it? I test drove one for a couple of trips and really liked it.
  6. thanks guys. I'll let this run for a bit to see how much interest there is.
  7. Hey guys, Last couple of years, many of the members of this forum have donated their time or flies to the streamwatch auction. I've noticed that there hasn't been anything this year. If any of you have some spare time, it is a great cause. I did have one idea. Could we make an auction item along the lines of a swap, but instead of sending them to each other, you send them to me and I put them up for auction? I haven't been involved in a swap, so I really don't know how it works, but it was an idea I had..... Thanks!
  8. Depends on the size of the stream, and difficulty to get to. The smaller/harder it is, the more I am liable to be devastated if I see another vehicle. Because I would probably leave. I made a long drive with Taco to some small water last summer. We got there and there was a camp set up. Panic started to set in. Fortunately, 2 of the people were at the camp and said everyone was fishing downstream and upstream was open (or the other way around, can't remember). Don't know what we would have done if they hadn't been there, maybe guessed and hoped. But we might have just left. Some of the places, run hopping just won't work due to cover, bank type, etc. Sucks sometimes, but it's part of the deal if you fish semi-remote.
  9. Only the auction on whatever the last page of this thread is will be kept up to date!! Also, if I decide I want a cheese cake, NY style, would I bid on the cake, or a pie since a NY chessecake kinda looks like a pie?

  11. I have the 10ft 5wt wind warrior a buddy of mine custom built. I love it. I also fish a ton with the shop rod from Hanson's. It is a 6 wt, 9 ft called the Traveler. Fairly fast, handles heavy nymph rigs with ease. I don't really have a go to between the two, I just use whichever I feel like fishing with that day.
  12. Brusnie, Put you in for the Pie. Sorry Chris!
  13. New items coming today! Keep looking back at the auction. There is lots more still to come!
  14. No, but they'll work there too!! They are killer dead drifted right now on das Bow.
  15. Little black leaches.
  16. I don't think there is an actual answer to the question. All the fish I caught up until Saturday were in water much like Uberfly mentioned, and speed was more important than depth. I did fish faster water, both deeper and slower, with nothing to show for it. The best example was Saturday. There were fished stacked up in a 3-4 foot slow moving trench. There is great water all around it, but all the fish were in the trench. But after reading trailheads post, my experience isn't the rule. While I did not find any in fast water, they obviously are moving into it in places. Welcome to transition time!
  17. No set time. As long as I see interest, I'll keep it going--just like a real auction. But at some point, I'll put a notice on the auction saying "Going, Going" or something witty like that and give a specific closing time. Any bids time stamped before that time will be accepted. We will run the thread probably for a month or so, but no individual auction will go that long.
  18. Awesome idea guys! I like the idea of this having its own area.
  19. Can we please limit this thread to bids? It is going to get really long otherwise. We can have conversations on the 2010 Auction Watch thread on the main General Discussion Page (not the pinned one). Mods, If you could move any of the non-bid specific posts to the other Auction Watch thread please?
  20. I don't think so, but you may want to confirm. From what I remember, the person MAKING the donation can claim the value of the donation, but the person buying is getting something of value in return, and therefore cannot claim it.
  21. Smitty, My wife is a nurse, and has worked extensively in both systems. I've had loved ones go through major care in both systems, including my parents who went broke back home paying for cancer treatment. I'm pretty sure I'm aware of the practical and philosophical differences between the two. And if it wasn't clear, I think this system is better. My point was that this bill is so watered down it does not really change anything (that is just an unfounded opinion, I do not know the specifics of the bill other than there is no public option-the one thing I thought they were shooting for in the first place.) And Taco, thanks for the link. I did not know what the reaction was to the original Canadian plan, but knowing what peoples typical reaction to major change is, it was not hard to predict. Seems just a vicious as what Obama is going through. Go figure, things really haven't changed all that much.
  22. Before everyone gets on their high horse about this, I would be interested to know what the reaction to Public Health Care was the day AFTER Tommy Douglas passed it. It's not an apple and orange comparison, yet. As someone who has lived significant time in both places, as much as you guys hate to hear it, ya ain't all that different. We are also trained pretty much from birth that the government needs to stay out of our lives as much as possible. Tough to get over that. All that said, this bill is garbage. Did not even come close to going far enough. Go to single payer, get it over with.
  23. Welcome fellow anglers... In 2008, Alberta Stream Watch was expanded to include a Stream Watch Officer in the foothills of S.W. Alberta. (for those of you unfamiliar with Stream Watch please visit: Alberta Stream Watch After a successful first year in 2008, the program ran again in 2009 and 2010 and many of you who fished the Oldman/Livingstone area last summer may have had a chance to meet our Stream Watch Conservation Officer, Jeff Cox, who initiated numerous angler interactions and made a significant impact on awareness of stewardship and angling regulations in the area. Please visit Stream Watch Annual Report to see the annual report. You may have also noted the new signage in the area. It's now time again to start our donations drive for Stream Watch 2011 Stream Watch relies on donations from corporations and individuals to fund it's efforts. A good part of the success in our fund raising for the past two years was the result of the Fly Fish Calgary Online Auction, thanks to the generosity of donors and bidders alike. For 2011, Rick Reeves, (rickr) will co-ordinate the Auction, collecting donations and compiling bids. Last year, this auction raised over $8000.00. Rick would really like to surpass the total raised when toolman ran this auction, when in 2008 he raised over $10,000. Now that the economy is beginning to hum along again, hopefully this auction will follow suit! Here is a copy of the highlights of Streamwatch in 2010: I know Stream Watch can count on your continuing support through the Auction and if possible, please consider supporting Stream Watch through an individual or corporate donation. Also, if you know of potential corporate or individual donors that we should contact, please let me know and I'll make sure that happens. Thank you, Al Caldwell Auction Guidelines: You can post your bids on this thread or make a silent bid by sending rickr a pm. All payments for items are expected to be honored within 10 days of the items closing date. RED DEER RIVER DRIFT with host/guide Sanky More info from Tony: "I would like to donate a full day float on the Red Deer River between Jun 1 and Jun 4, inclusive, to catch the Skwala Stonefly Hatch. I do suggest a mid-week float so that we encounter very little traffic and have the whole river to ourselves. A BBQ lunch will be provided along with water and snacks. Please anticipate a long day on the water, as hatch times may vary and we might only get off the water at dark. This trip is for up to two anglers in a low profile Hyde. I am not a guide but I LOVE to flyfish." Note: These dates may be subject to change due to snow pack/runoff/hatch conditions.
