Bow River Staples

I already posted about the SJW, but that got me thinking about other Bow River essentials.

 

 

 

 

If you could choose 5 or 6 flies to use on the bow what would they be?

for teh summer dude it would be prince nymphs size 16, pheasent tail size 18, elk hair caddis size 14, chernobyl ant size 8, clouser minnow size 4 and wooly bugger size 6

Thanks maxwell, do you use multiple nymph rigs or what usually? I'm also surprised that the SJW did not make the cut, I guess that is a given?

a given dude! i got it!! just giving you more options brown stonefly nymphs in a size 8 would be another cgreat choice and copper johns in a 14!!! i fish 3 nymphs.. heaviest on top and the point (smaller) fly below! start with 2 nymphs and if u get comfortable with it fish 3! another deadly combo is the chernobyl with 2 nymphs below it at 2 and 3 feet!!

Max has it pretty much covered, however I'd add Copper John and to a lesser extent hare's ear as well.

have to have a few stimmies in the box. love using an orange bodied stimmy with a red ant follower for the crow. red bodied stimmys are another go to fly ( for me) for the liv and oldman (not sure why but orange seems best for the crow and red for the other two rivers). not my first fly on the bow but have good success with them in the evening there as well (can be deadly skidding them across the water at the end of a drift)

Caddie pupa and larve are killer all year long. Lightning bugs do good too

I usually tie them on an 8 or a 10 2X hook.
