Guest JayVee Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 For the life of me I can't pull the two middle sections of my rod apart. Any suggestions? Quote
CDone Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 Check out this thread on another board, #14 always works for me if everything else fails http://forum.flybc.ca/index.php?showtopic=11965&hl=stuck Colin Quote
speyghillie Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 Hi Jayvee, One thing to try is, put the rod round the back of your legs right behind your knees with the stuck section right in the middle, hold the rod tight either side of your knees and push out with your legs as the lever , this uses the bigger Muscles and because the sections are behind you knees it keeps the sections straight and stops twisting . I have seen this work so many times at the Trout fishery where i work, there are loads of other ways but this works most of the time. Gordo. Quote
reevesr1 Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Gord's method works great, but pay attention to your hands with respect to your guides. Last time I unstuck 2 sectioins using this method I also broke a guide. Quote

Guest JayVee Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Thanks for all the info guys. I forgot about the ol' behind the knees trick. Quote
easternflyfish Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 The best luck i had with this problem is to put the rod behind you under your deriere, keeping your hands as close to the furrels as possible and then just assume a sitted possition. Worked every time! Good luck Quote
Castuserraticus Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Wrap a hot rag around the female section. Thermal expansion might make it looser. Quote
robertrossi Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 use a blow dryer on the female section. worked for me!! Quote
Flyfisher Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Ice the stuck ferrule section before pulling apart. Ice it long enough so the male end stuck inside ferrule is cold to. Cold will cause the material to contract thus the ferrule hole becomes larger and the male end smaller making it easier to pull apart. Heat will to the opposite due to expansion. The male end expands to a larger diameter and the ferrule material expands making the hole smaller resulting in even a tighter fit. No heat! good luck! Quote
Taco Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 snap the rod half over your knee @ the ferrule and put in a warranty claim, otherwise go w/CDone's method. probably the most guaranteed of all that's been posted so far Quote
