bloom Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 What are your experiences for a line to suit this rod? Go with the standard 6 wt, or with a heavier 6wt like the GPX or the cortland 6.5 wt? Quote
Taco Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 Only ever fished a z-axe once, rod felt soft for fast action graphite to me, if it were mine I'd be tempted to underline it not overline it Quote
maxwell Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 i woudl go with a opti stream, airflow 40+ rio grande or something a bit heavier like one of them lines.... i like the opti and airflow line the most out of teh 3 mainly because they two tone the head so it makes it easy too switch cast or overhand cast and shoot lien when theres no guess work were teh head is at Quote
markd Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 Bloom, i have a 5 and 6 weight Z. Sharkskin (in the weight that matches the rod) is my personal favorite on that rod, and i've tried most others on it as well. There's probably not a better shooting line or distance line out there (especially for lake fishing..). GPX also loads it very nicely, same with a Orvis Wonderline.. For a streamer line, the 200 gr streamer express cut back to a 15 foot sink-tip is just perfect Quote
walker1 Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 Tim....did Santa land early????? I don't recall if you cast my 4wt XP this summer in our travels. Anyhow, I use GPX and am very satisfied. Probably similar since both rods are rated fast. Did ya get my last pm? Quote

You actually did start that whole thought process too when I casted your xp and saw how light it was...should have never done it. Quote
