Guest Sundancefisher Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 My kids are starting to surf more and are picking up loads of crap spyware. Adaware and AVG are okay but does anyone have any SAFE and SECURE other freeware out there that has proven to work. Thanks for the tips! Cheers Sun Quote
jonny5 Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 Spybot search and destroy is great at finding existing spyware on your comp. Trend micro is a good anti virus. And deleting your cookies once in a while seems to help with popups. J5 Quote
bhurt Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 I would recommened going to www.downloads.com and dl Adaware, I have used this for years and am extremly happy with it, also as mentioned before Spybot search and destroy is also good. I would recommened maybe getting two programs and run them both, I have found in the past one program might pick up one that the other doesn't. Quote

birchy Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 If you have Shaw Internet.. go to Shaw's website and download Shaw Secure. Comes free with your account and it's a full anti-virus/spyware/firewall program that works very well. Quote

LynnF Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 If that doesn't work for you, here's what my IT guys at work use all the time - and it works like hell http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/ Quote
alhuger Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 Well, it's not what people like to hear but I can state, qualitatively, that you generally (although not always) get what you pay for when it comes to AV. If your kids are active on the same system you bank from I would suggest you shell out the money for real AV. My suggestions would be go with an AV package that has anti spyware support and not the other way around. al Quote
Taco Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 Yeah freeware av is worth every cent you pay for. ESET NOD32 Antivirus $30/yr/computer= 0 problems/3yrs Quote
bhurt Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 I use Microsoft Live one care and am very happy with it. Quote
birchy Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 I know this is an old thread.. but I'm one of those nerds that prefers to "search for old threads and add to them instead of starting new ones"... For people still looking for free antivirus software - I have been using Panda Cloud Antivirus for the last while and haven't had any issues. Runs mostly in the cloud (thank you captain obvious!) so it's very lightweight.. and I'm not sure that I've ever come across a simpler interface: http://www.cloudantivirus.com/en/ Internet reviews seem to be generally very good. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2355827,00.asp http://www.softpedia.com/reviews/windows/P...ew-126499.shtml Quote
