maxwell Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 picked up a copy of spey castin II edition by simon gausworth.. AWSOME BOOK! there was a part near the back were he described grass leaders.. thought they were pretty dope.. all you do is take come stiff/heavy mono and make nail knows.. i used 30lb maxima... you make the nail knots every 6 inches or so and leave half inch tags... basically the barbwire like leader grips teh grass and helps you practice your spey/underhand casting while on the lawn... was going too give em a go tomorow and see how it works.. i made a 12footer... heres a few pics Quote
brewingup Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 very cool. I'm glad to know there might be a good way to practice off the water where i won't scare all the fish. thanks maxwell, maybe i'll get myself when of htem crazy weird rods one day. Quote
speyghillie Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Hey Max, Nice little LOOPS there, but the fish are in the water, good tip for anybody that can't get to the river and want to practice . Gordo. Quote
SilverDoctor Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 I've put grass leaders together and they do work. I found they don't give your the amount of drag you get on the water though, maybe the ones I built didnt have stiff enough "prongs". Nice for going down to the park and giving someone a feel for a Spey rod though. Quote
maxwell Posted September 25, 2008 Author Posted September 25, 2008 i here ya silver doc.. made my prongs extra long and was going to trim em down every 10 minutes or so too see if that helps.. awas going too make one with prongs every 3 inches too and every foot too see the difference.... maybe some 60lb will help with the bigger lines compared too trying with a switch or smaler 6 or 7wt rod? gody loop u loop have loop any loop experience loop with loop these? LLLOOOOOOOOOOOOPPPP Quote
speyghillie Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Hey Max, Seen them at a couple of events, you need just enough to snag the Grass to help with the anchor point, Loop Loop buddy . Quote
