kungfool Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 Hey brotha's! Tied my first Clouser today and would love some input from you vets about making them better. The tutorial I had didn't mention the lengths of the different bucktails or crystal flash so any input there would be fantastic. Cheers! Quote
bulltrout Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 the length is good from what i see...just make sure you epoxy the gaps to strengthen the fly...depending on your preferences, try tying on straight eyed hooks....it helps the fly ride properly...good looking clouser though... Quote
SanJuanWorm Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 Looks great. I'd use a darker head though and trim the hair at the eye. But im just picky that way. My clousers usually have heads like this one. Quote
admin Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 It looks fairly good. The only thing I would change is to set the eyes a bit further back, and go a bit sparser on the hair. Check out these videos on how to tie the Clouser. Check out the Bob Clouser Interview from the last WCFFE in Calgary. Quote
kungfool Posted June 29, 2007 Author Posted June 29, 2007 My clousers usually have heads like this one. I originally wanted to tie the clouser with a white thread since I don't like the idea of tying with mono. I never thought a darker color would look all that good until I saw the head you made above. My only concern there is contrast of the dark thread on the white bucktail behind the eyes. Maybe it wouldnt be that noticeable?? I'll give it a try. Oh, and SJW... I'm a long ways off before I can tie them like the one you tied above . Quote
kungfool Posted June 29, 2007 Author Posted June 29, 2007 Thanks for the links and tips drbulltrout and pacreseltoro. I will pick up some epoxy and try a one with sparser hair. Thx again. Quote
SanJuanWorm Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 Kungfool this is jus tto show you the head. This fly is 9 inches long. Its for bulls. Thats why its not so sparse. Too big to cast. I just tie 6 inchers now. Quote
cdock Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 My only suggestion would be move the eyes a touch further back from the eye. Other than that it looks great! I tie mine sparse and dense depending on my mood. Both work fine but the denser ones tend to become sparse by the end of the day. LOL! Quote
