Guest bigbadbrent Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 I take it that you took the second pic before the first one, as they're all staring at you in the second, then all runnin! thats a ton of deer man, saw probably 30 yesterday, but they were in groups of 5-10 Quote
Guest RedWiggler Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Thats is a huge herd of deer, maybe the biggest Ive seen. Quote
Jeffro Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Did any of the deer still have their head gear on? Cool pics, and gotta love the awesomeness of the prairies! Quote
troutlover Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Nice pics i saw a bunch grouped up around Police on the weekend as well. I'm not that great at spotting male or female but none had head gear out of probably 40 that i saw. Quote
Hawgstoppah Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 cool. There was a huge herd on highway 501 all winter too, every time I went over the milk river valley there'd be about as many deer as your pics. Early on I noticed a lot of 'em had headgear.... what time of year do they lose it? Quote
Pipes Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Usually start losing in late January - March. Have seen some in April before. Quote
BlueNorther Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 The bigger bucks will start dropping their antlers in early March, most are already starting to grow this years rack. Some spikers and fork horned bucks can still be wearing theirs till the end of this month. Those deer in the pics are most likely all doe's,fawns and yearlings. The older bucks form up bachelor herds and won't be around the females till next October. Quote
Quantum Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 great pics. not to often do i see so many der in one place except maybe an alfalfa feild Quote
Harps Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 There was one old buck in Leth that kept one antler into July last year. Very unusual, he hung out on the stretch of grass between 5 Ave N and Hwy 3. Quote
