OneMoreLastCast Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 I was just over visiting another forum and saw a great thread that people posted lakes, etc that was Ice free for fishing. Not that any of our lakes would be ice free yet, but maybe if people were to post sections of different rivers that have open water, we could spread out the pressure. That being said, does anyone here know when White Tail thaws out? I'll start by saying that everything up here where I am at the moment in Fort McMurray is frozen solid.... Quote
Weedy1 Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 There are advantages to living in Edmonton. Wabamun. Quote
Hawgstoppah Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 I was under the impression that the generation station was going to close down there a few years ago. is this not the case? if so, I should keep on planning my annual trips I guess. Quote
Hawgstoppah Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Even though I haven't made the "first" annual trip Heard some ghreat stuff about that place. Have some Edmonton friends that keep trying to drag me up. Quote
Hawgstoppah Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Oh, and ... the Bow is covered with ice, it won't be open again until AFTER easter weekend. All of you should go ice fishing on sundance lake.... honsetly!! Quote
Weedy1 Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 You have until the end of the month Brian then the lake closes until May 18. The plant closes down in 2010, March I think. Some big ass pike coming out of there on regular basis. Quote
rusty Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Whitetail is usually frozen until at least the second week in May. I've been up that way twice first week and got owned both times. Premier is almost always off by then though - so it's not a huge loss. Quote
trailhead Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 The Crow is pretty much ice-free from East Hillcrest to the reservoir, Chain Lakes is still covered, so is Lee Lake. Quote
lonefisher Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 upper bow is open water in most areas but is not fishin super hot. Been catching a few on the spey rod though which is a blast. I knew that thing would be great for the upper bow fishin streamers. Tough hitting some of the good streamer water with the short rod but its doable. But I don't expect many will leave the lower bow for its moody upstream version. Quote
beedhead Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Not lookint to promissing for Bullshead on Apr.1st. These pics are from 2 days ago. Not even a trace of open water as of yet. Quote

gravelman Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 When is the okotoks private lake going to turn on the airation system that would clear it up fast Quote
Guest bigbadbrent Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 It's odd that they don't aerate it all winter..just asking for problems We looked at it today James, and it's gonna be clear probably by the weekend, or next weekend, depending on wind, heat and if it rains Quote
OneMoreLastCast Posted March 19, 2008 Author Posted March 19, 2008 Here's the link for the other forums "Ice Off" thread for anyone that might be planning a Spring trip to BC. http://www.flybc.ca/forum/index.php?showtopic=8742&hl= Quote
