Mephitis Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 I'll try this again on the new board here: I'm in need of a new DT-5-F line, but there are a whole mess of them out there. Anyone have any recommendations for a moderately-priced line? TIA Pat Quote
Flytyer Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 Hi Pat the best reasonable DT line I have found was SA ; I didn't like the memory retention of Cortland 444 I use SA DT on a 3 wt and it rolls over quite nicely. Quote
lonefisher Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 I have a SA dt trout taper and really really like it. Funny thing is I had a buddy pick it up for me and the shop guy didn't want him to spend money on this line...... I dunno why but I guess not everyone likes em so much Quote
admin Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 My preference is the RIO lines. A mainstream or a classic is a decent line, and isn't too pricey. Any reason your looking for a DT rather than a WF line? Quote
pigl Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 I like SA lines. I bought an Airflow Ridgeline 5 wt WF last year and didn't like it at all - way too much memory. SA trout taper or the GPX (although I don't know if they make them in DT). Why are you getting a DT? As an aside, does anyone know anything about a brand of line called "Wulff". A friend of mine bought a reel on Ebay that was spooled with a "Wulff #9" (which he doesn't care about and will likely throw away), but I've never heard of that line. Any thoughts? Quote
birchy Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 I like SA lines. I bought an Airflow Ridgeline 5 wt WF last year and didn't like it at all - way too much memory. Good to know. I was reading about this stuff in a recent magazine and was contemplating buying a spool. Quote
Mephitis Posted May 30, 2007 Author Posted May 30, 2007 Thanks a lot guys. I do appreciate the feedback. WRT why I want a DT, it's because I'm cheap and when one end wears, I can reverse the line. Most of my fishing is on smaller waters, so I don't need to reach way out like I could with a WF line. cheers pat Quote
MMAX Posted June 2, 2007 Posted June 2, 2007 I've been fly fishing for about 20 years and have only used Cortland fly lines. I find that I only can get a little over a year out of my lines and even after cleaning the tip sinks (no it's not a sink tip line-DT4F). What are some of the lines you guys use? Is there a better line out there? Quote
