loviatt Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 Just a quick question for any board members - has anyone done any flyfishing in southern California? Heading down to LA/San Diego next week (if I don't die of exposure here in the meantime...) and hoping to get into a day or even afternoon of fishing. I have tried google etc but am not having a whole lot of luck so far. Any first-hand experience? Thanks in advance. Quote
DougC Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 You can try the Fly Fisherman forum for the Southwest Region. Lots of guys from LA post trip reports and I'm sure they would be willing to help you out. Southwest Forum Quote
bloom Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 I was in LA two years ago around March. I did some research on fishing and didn't find much. Couldn't even track down some decent fly shops that were worth my time to head to. Quote
trailhead Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 It is as most of the reponses here so far, there is limited fishing in fresh water anywhere in S.Cali. There are some reservoirs that have stocked trout, but the seasons are very different. Open at odd times, variable access and also a ton of anglers. If you wanted to flyfish there is some in the salt. Quote
gustuphson Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 My wife used to live in LA when we were dating. She bought me a book of fishing spots in California, I remember that one of the locations where the aquaduct ran above ground... can be pretty slim pickings in some spots. That being said I had a chancet o fish the Merced river in and around Yosemite and it was good, lots more water to explore up there. Quote
