reevesr1 Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 What do you guys think of these conversion kits from TFO? If I read it correctly, will turn a 8 wt TiCRx into a 11'3" two hander. Anyone try one? http://www.templeforkflyrods.com/rods/conversion.html#T Quote
toolman Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 This conversion kit will not make your single handed rod, a Spey rod, but rather a switch type rod. Mainly, it will allow two handed overhead casts, which makes it easier to get a bit of distance and the extra rod length will give added mending capabilities and it may be great for high sticking, swinging drys, small beadheads, etc. Quote
headscan Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 Al brought this up a little while ago: http://flyfishcalgary.com/board/index.php?showtopic=2636 I think (but am not certain) that Spey and Switch rods have different tapers than single handed rods, so you'd be better off getting a rod that was designed specifically for that application than trying to convert a single hander. A Beulah switch would be a better (though more expensive) choice IMO. Quote
cheeler Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 You could speycast with it, but it's limited to lighter lines as it's not designed with a spey line in mind. Word on speypages is that TFO is testing different blanks for some new switch rods, but no word on a release date. There is a 5wt 11' spey rod listed on their site for $250, so it could be in that price range. Quote
