brokentippet Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Just wondering how far I guy would have to travel to try his hand and some large mouth on the fly. Quote
Dangus Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Oh ya forgot about those lakes ha. Bunch of lakes around Jaffray have them. I've seen pics of them up to around 8lb. Wasa lake has a few too Quote
jpinkster Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Wasa has some really big bass. Don't waste your time in the spring (that's trout season). Head out there in July or August and bring your hopper box with you. We caught 80 in a day all on hoppers near Jaffrey. 1 Quote
jgib01 Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 I thought this was going to be a thread about subwoofers, or maybe Meghan Trainor (my kids hate my dad-jokes these days) I've never fished for bass before, of any variety, on the fly or otherwise. Definitely on my list. My son had the privilege when he was about 9 y.o. of landing a striped bass (different kettle, I know) in Nova Scotia, but I never fished them myself the couple of years we lived out there. We have seen the freshwater variety in BC several times when camping, but I've never taken the step of actually buying that BC license. I just have to find the time one year to buy it, and then make sure I make it worth my while by getting out there at least a few times. I love tossing poppers to pike, so imagine fishing top water for bass would be a hoot. Quote
Dangus Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 There are some nice fish in vaseux by osoyoos. I've caught them using buzz baits (on my one and only gear rod) around the lily pads by the pullout/park near the cliff that says "man someone must drive into this rock face time to time." A little tricky wading in the muck, but I'm sure a popper would work great. Quote
jpinkster Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 One tip: don't be afraid to stronger line. Bass really don't care, and they try to burrow themselves into the weeds. You'll want that extra strength to horse them out of a lily-pad. Quote
Smitty Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 I caught my first ever (and on the fly too) at Baynes Lake. Generally pretty small though. Not fussy; any surface popper or frog fly is good. Smitty 1 Quote
