jimforrest
I'm heading to Montana in a week and plan to do some backcountry fishing. Are there any issues or procedures I need to know about in terms of taking bear spray across the American border? Any advice or experience you could share would be much appreciated. I don't want to get in any hassles with US customs. They tend to be pretty serious about things. Thanks in advance.
bighopper
It's OK. I've taken bear spray across the border several times at checkpoints in Montana and Idaho. Just be sure to tell them that you have bearspray and you are going fishing.
flyfishfairwx
as long as it is marked as "Bear Spray" not an issue.. also check with the Montana fisheries web site, for special measures , read that as "closures due to the damn heat" messing with their trout is something they take damn serious.. fwp.mt.gov Restrictions , Closures, and reopening's. sldrose
its not a problem, i've made several trips and declared the bear spray both ways and they've been fine with it.
Taco
Buy your bear spray in the US, American version is double the strength than is allowed by law in Canada
