Cutbow16 Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 I'm headed to do some saltwater fishing this June in Mexico and am looking to buy a good saltwater rod/outfit in the mid-price range. Any suggestions? I will be fishing near the southern tip of Baja California in the Sea of Cortez. Thanks in advance! Quote
ÜberFly Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Depending on how often you will use it in the future, without spending a lot, go with at BVK 10 wt. 1 Quote
Cutbow16 Posted May 11, 2015 Author Posted May 11, 2015 Ya I was looking at the BVK and it seems like its good quality for a pretty reasonable price. Quote
bcubed Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 More important is your reel. The first saltwater fish you catch will blow your mind. Drags a beautiful thing, especially sealed. 1 Quote
Cutbow16 Posted May 11, 2015 Author Posted May 11, 2015 Yes I have heard that the reel is definitely a more important component when fishing the salt. I'm also looking at the Orvis Recon 9 foot 10wt outfit. Seems like a good option overall. Quote
ogilvie Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 depends on what you are fishing for will dictate the needs..if you're after Roosters then you might really want a good rod/reel outfit that won't cripple your arm ..9wt rods are fine but 10 and 11 are better..can you imagine a 50 lb rooster on a 9 wt rod..thats a battle royale! Don't cheap out on this... C 1 Quote
