flytyer101 Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Hi All, Im in the market for a new point and shoot waterproof camera for fishing. I currently have a olympus tough 10 MP and my dad has a tough with 12 MP, so I think its time for an upgrade as mine is over 5 years. We've had no problems with the Olympus cameras. Im just interested to see what everyone recommends with all the new technology out there. Im looking into the panasonic, pentax , olympus and nikon and any others you guys may suggest ! Ive noticed that most have 16 MP now, so the 6MP should be quite the improvement. thanks for the input! Terrance Quote
cheeler Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 The extra megapixels are only useful if you have a need to print however most models appear to be in the 14-16 MP range anyways. Sensor size and the quality of the lens will have a more significant influence on photo quality. There's a roundup here: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/2013-waterproof-roundup/18 However, if you have the cash you might be interested in the new Nikon 1 waterproof camera - it has a much larger sensor than anything else on the DP review roundup and interchangeable lenses. Hopefully this will make other manufacturers bring out better rugged cameras because they haven't improved the image quality in the past few years. Quote

Muffin Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 I have last year's model Panasonic Lumix and I am very pleased with it. The pictures are good and the camera is very rugged. It evens swims in beer I found out. 2 Quote
SimonB Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 I have been using the Canon D20 and it is amazing ! Excellent quality on pics and vid(1080pHD). I highly recommend it. Cheers, SImon Quote
pokerfish Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 last may I replaced my pentax wg2 with the olympus tg2. I have been very happy with my choice. good underwater shots - much brighter than the old one. But the feature I value the most is the on speed - press the button and the camera is rtg, no wait, no hesitation, first pic almost simultaneous with the turn on. Second great thing is the video - press the easy to find button on the back and you are taking a vid. - no fumbling with dials or worse menu's. The frequent used stuff - flash control, timer, iso, white balance, is on screen and easily usuable and intuitive. two things that are not great - only 4x, and the panoramic scene seaming process is slow. I spent quite some time researching this and after 9 months of use, I would make the same choice. Definitely not the cheapest, but the value is there for me. Quote
vhawk12 Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 After watching The Camera Store's waterproof camera shootout, I asked Santa for the Nikon AW110...not only did I get it, I think it was on sale for $199.99 on cyber Monday...talk about bang for your buck, this thing is awesome. Quote
