Mudflap Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 Can fly's be brought as carry on? How about 4 piece rod tubes? With Westje n particular. Thanks Quote
Flytyer Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 Flies no, rods depends on carrier. Seen a guy had a couple of 4pc rods in tubes carried in a packback on Alaska Air and he had no issue Quote
ÜberFly Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 Haven't flown west jet with rods, but no problem on Air Canada to Mexico with both reels and rods... Flies must be checked. Quote
lad Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Fishpond has a travel case that you can pack your rods, reels and other gear in. Gain a lot of wasted space not taking rod tubes and it's carry on sized. I was told by one of the fly shops in Calgary you can take hooks now up to 2 1/2 ". I do carry all my lines on the reels but have not actually had flys in the carry on. Best bet would be phoning west jet. Quote
ajbopp Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 I have not had any problem on Westjet traveling to both Cuba and Mexico carrying on four piece rods and reels. I use an old Orvis bag that holds five rods in their tubes as well as a number or reels. Most do not allow you to carry on flies so I have always checked them. Quote
Fred Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 I tried flying with flies once. I ended up having to check them. I cant remember if it was air canada or west jet. Quote
