zed Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 hi all. i'm looking to get a new 7 or 8wt for chucking large streamers/windy days/big rivers/maybe even saltwater and i've found a good deal on a redington cpx. anyone have any experience with these rods? i'm also considering the sage flight as they are on sale at wholesale sports. all opinions welcome. looking in the $300ish price range. thanks, kent. Billhv Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 Country Pleasures also has a limited number of Sage rods at 40% off. I bought one on Saturday. Quote
ÜberFly Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 I've had several (3) CPX's. Nice fast blank! Just sold one, but my wife has both a 5 wt & 6 wt and likes them. My preference is to use a SA GPX line - I find it loads them very nicely!! I think they have been discontinued so you should be able to pick them up for at least 30% off! My only complaint is that the grip/handle is a little narrow for my liking, but that seems to be the trend these days with a lot of rod manufacturers... P Quote
Jayhad Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 CPX's are great sticks, i've had a few and was happy with them. If you are a Sage XP fan, you will be happy as the taper is a XP taper and you will notice that they are close to the same feel Quote
Muffin Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 My first rod was a Redington and I was very happy with it. Nothing to pricey or fancy but I loved it. I still keep it to let my friends try the sport out. It was a 6 wt. Quote
Guest 420FLYFISHIN Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 love my CPX and warrenty is amazing! Quote
ironfly Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 I have 2 CPX's, a 7wt and a 9. The 7 is a contender for my favourite rod. I also have a 3wt RS4, and it's a great rod, too! Anyone know what old Sage taper that one is? Not that I own anything high end. Or ever will. But I sure am grateful that there are enough people who need the latest and greatest from Sage, and are willing to pay for all that R&D, so that I can reap the benefits a few years later for half the price. Bang-for-buck, I think Redington is the best brand around. Quote
