northfork Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 WOW pepper!! That is just an absolutely phenomenal photo of that wood duck! Do you see many in the area?? Seen some harlequins for the first time in my life in Pincher Creek country this spring. AWESOME! Quote
northfork Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 PS I quite enjoy that run the fellow is fishing for dry flies. Nailed a few really nice browns out of there earlier this spring! Cheers Quote
pepper Posted June 28, 2012 Author Posted June 28, 2012 Thanks Northfork! We can recall taking a photo of a wood duck only once before, maybe 5 years ago. According to The Atlas of Breeding Birds of Alberta, the wood duck occurs "sporadically" in this province, "where it is at the northern limits of its North American range." In any case, it sure was a treat to spot this one. It was sitting on that log, in a small new side channel that was created by the current high water on the Bow River. It kept an eye on us as we moved around for a better shot, but never took flight. Quote
