Guest bigbadbrent Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 Noticed the other day while tying evil weevils that my head cement was reacting with the peacock ice dub i was using. Added the cement, looked back at one of my flies (thankfully only put cement on one at the time) and the ice dub around the head had turned a blue-gray color, and actually kinda melted into my hands.. this happen often? Guest bigbadbrent Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 rethought it, might be a reaction with the tungsten bead and hump i was using, as thats the only time i've seen it happen..wierd Quote
Flytyer Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 Is it really necessary to add the head cement? I don't think it's needed on this type of fly. I mostly use cement or nail hardener to reinforce wingcases made of feather fibres Quote
Guest bigbadbrent Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 understandable..i rarely use cement..but putting that much tungsten on a single fly, makes it worth the drop of cement... wierd reaction Quote
SilverDoctor Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 understandable..i rarely use cement..but putting that much tungsten on a single fly, makes it worth the drop of cement... wierd reaction Try just putting a bit of cement on the thread, about 4 turns worth then whip. works great. Quote
Bugchucker Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 Try a drop of super glue (ZAP) on the thread not the fly (just a tiny bit) when you whip. It ain't coming apart. Quote
Brunsie Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 Kind of off topic, but.... I tied some chronnie's using acetate floss and Peacock Ice Dub instead of herl. When I dipped the flies in acetone, the ice dub turned very brittle. When i rolled it between my fingers it crumbled and fell off. I've had this happen occasionally with head cement as well. BK Quote
