Recommended Posts

In my experiences of fly fishing and fishing I have used a series of knots and I change it up. Maybe I change it to often but I do have several favorites.. thay are the improved clinch, orvis knot and the surgeons loop..

What is the oppionions of all of you? What do you use and is there any suggestions that you have?

Please tell me.

Kristi,

I have used this knot for the last ten years or so, and I really like it a lot. We tested different knots at a Fish Tales Seminar a few years ago, and we actually broke the tippet before the Eugene Bend. I was totally sold after that.

Dick Seymour

I have never heard of the Duncan knot before. Have been tying the Uni Knot. Did not realize it was the same until viewing posted links above.

Here is a site with many knots. Best thing about the site is how clearly the instructions are for learning new knots.

The videos and step by step are very good. Using "rope" instead of line aids in clarity.

Wow thanks for the tips and links.. I’ll be sure to check it out. I guess I am just curious to see what everyone else is using out there.. And if there is something I am completely and totally unaware of when it comes to knots.. Thanks everyone who has posted and that may post..

I used to use a wider variety of knots a few years ago, however I find a clinche and surgeons do in most situations. I gave up on the improved clinche when I realized if I tied the cliche properly it rarely failed for me. Hint don't pull on the tag and lubricate well. The uniknot is a good knot but takes too long to tie relative to the clinche. Nail knot for attaching your line to the backing....

I find I use several diffrent knots for diffrent conditions and purposes. My goto atm is the Surgeon's shortcut. Pulling tags usually results in disaster for myself. And I use lip balm to lube my knot before pulling tight.

is there any other ticks or suggestions to other knots out there I could try, particularly in cold weather like this?

Thanks again

I'll add another vote for the duncan loop. As far as cold weather it's a good one. Also, for really cold weather I find mono a bit more forgiving than fluorocarbon when tying the knot and fishing it. I've had fluoro break clean during casting a lot in the winter.
